What happened to all the hands at the start? There's fuck loads of people unboxing the raptors and then when the shit begins there's literally nobody in the compound

Did they all knock off or something and close for the weekend? Did they all die offscreen? What happened on the 2nd island as well, everybody just got fucked and i don't recall an explanation

Most of them were evacuated by ship because of the storm but still one of the points of the movie is that the park didn't work for many reasons, one of them was that Hammond wasn't employing enough people, he DID spare expenses

There was a hurricane approaching so they evacuated all non-essential staff by boat. Dr Wu talks about how he wanted the raptor eggs to hatch before he has to leave in the boat, and Nedry is trying to get his canister of embryos to another guy that's on the the boat out.

The site B island was hit by a seperate hurricane a few months later. Hammond says it was and act of god, but it was just a cheap plot point to have a second abandoned island full of dinosaurs.
