Someone explain the ending of this movie to me.

I mean, i know that the whole movie is basically about fidelity and what it means to be married. The danger of turning sex, which is supposed to be an act of intimacy into an extrovert practice, where everyone becomes just a means for pleasure and people lose their faces, and i get that most of the film that happens after this orgy is about his guilt and shame for having these thoughts, to the point where he sees the mask (his secrets disturbing him so much) that he confesses everything to his wife.

It's about wanting to live a fantasy, in more ways than one, and how fantasy can be deliriously deceptive, and the underlying things behind fantasy can be dark, but that without fantasy we also see that which we don't want to see.

In this way, it's kind of a nice companion piece to Blue Velvet.
