The games were better, the movie is the most boring piece of shit I have ever seen
>>
>>81833555
Finally will be able to watch and see what's going on. I've only watched it twice on youtube in questionable quality.

>Restored by Mosfilm from a 2k scan of the original negative.
>2k scan
>vertical resolution of 1080 giving it a resolution of 1440 x 1080 in 4:3

This seems like such a wasted effort. They should at least do a scan at 2160p and release a blu ray now and save the higher quality version for an eventual 4K blu ray release down the road. Why do they insist on doing master scans at such a tiny resolution that's almost obsolete at this point?

Can't wait to see that munchkin hang himself in 4K HDR to be honest
>>
This flick could be decent if they cut the run time in half and had less boring shots of flowers and shit
>>
>>81835958
Just set the playback speed to 200%. I haven't watched a movie at normal speed in years.
>>
>>81835982

I usually stick to 120% as the chipmunk voices annoy me but i suppose it probably doesn't make much difference to Russian so good idea thanks anon

>>

It was a little unusual, therefor somewhat interesting. That's literally it. I have no idea why snobs praise films like this so much. They can never explain what makes it so fucking great in their mind.

Hipsters.
>>
>>81838177
>>81837600
I haven't seen the film in it's entirety but from what little I have seen, it just seems to be atmospheric cinematography porn.
>>
>>81838177
yeah we are all pretending to like it hehe you really stripped down the entire narrative good job anon it's just a prank nobody actually likes it hehehe got em good

How much kino am i missing out on if i haven't seen any Tarkovsky film ?
>>
>>81835457
Oh fuck off /v/g/
>>
>>81837600
You don't have to like or enjoy every critically acclaimed movie, just because it's generally considered as a great film doesn't mean everyone has to like it.

It's called having a taste anon.

also protip: don't manually overanalyze the meaning of every Tarkovsky film. There is no universal singular answer, Tarkovsky hated symbolism. You just have to allow yourself to experience the film in it's entirety, movies aren't puzzles which you have to put together in a certain kind of way to "get" them.
>>
>>81839042
Depends on what you like. Most likely you are missing out big time.

Try watching Stalker or The Mirror and if you absolutely don't like it don't even try anything else, or atleast wait a few years and try again.
Don't force yourself to like it.
>>
>>81839165
nah i like weird/artsy/mindfuck films, i just don't watch a lot of foreign films - even though i am from eastern EU myself.

That's what I felt about Zerkalo

I did find Stalker really good though, it got this comfy and mysterious feel about it.
>>
It's not actually "criterioned", they are using Mosfilm's remaster/reprint that's available on Mosfilm's Youtube

They just slapped a bunch of recycled interviews on it.

you can easily normalize the chipmunk sound
>>
Stalker is pretty damn good, but I will fully admit there is a huge boring section right in the middle.
>>
>>81833555
I started watching this film a few weeks ago, got about 45 minutes in, thought it was amazing, completely hypnotised, saw it was 3 A.M and I had to be up early tomorrow so I turned it off and went to bed to finish at a later date.
Next day my cat pisses on my computer and the fucker won't turn on
2T+ of pirated films inaccessible and Stalker was one of them
mfw still haven't finished this masterpiece
>>
>>81839042
Watch Ivans Childhood, its his most coherent and easiest to get into, then watch the mirror, if you dont get anything out of the mirror you can stop there.

or just watch Rosselini's war trilogy since it's the same thing but thousand times better?

Tarko/v/shitsky is garbage praised by self hating hipster russians, not even top 5 film maker of Soviet Union, probably not even top 10

Here's an exceptionally good print on youtube (yes on youtube, you still won't find a better one almost anywhere else, video quality is great and the 196kbps youtube audio is more than enough for this)

Eisenstein, Kalatozov, German, Sokurov, Vertov, Medvedkin, Paradzano on top of my head and every single one better and more original than Tarkovsky's Robert+Bergman worship

Truly, fucking once, the kikes didn't win.

Whatever you think was going on was going on.
Yes there are some general themes and ideas, but there is no universal singular answer.
>>
>>81840039
thank you!
>>
I've seen it enough times, I'm good.
>>
>>81835457
The film would not benefit from a 4k scan
It would actually make it look worse considering how grainy it already is
>>
>>81840367
Huh... Now that I think about it I probably should have learnt alittle bit of Tarkovsky's history so I can better gauge what he's conveying
>>
>>81840039
God damn, this is the best I've ever seen this movie look. The bluray rip I downloaded a while back was pretty bad and had way too much grain, almost like it wasn't the original negative.
>>
>>81840921
Yeah, the two current bluray releases are pretty bad
>>
>>81841149
Have you happen to seen the version that's on Filmstruck? Is it the same as the one on youtube? I can't find a rip of it.
>>
>>81841246
No, only Artificial Eye and the Japanese one

I feel that rutracker should be fast doing rips of this film because it's Russian, but they don't have a filmstruck rip
>>
>>81841594
they have two webrips that I have no idea where they're from, and they were uploaded before this version was uploaded on youtube
>>
>>81841699
I think I compared screenshots from all their larger rips and concluded that one of their DVD remuxes looked the best.

The youtube version looks better though, but the bluray rips have the best sound.
>>
>>81833555
I honestly don't understand why there aren't more video game movie adaptations that are actually beautiful and interesting and intellectual. It's not like there isn't enough material to draw from. Just, for whatever reason, no one talented seems to hardly ever get involved in these kinds of projects, so they end up trash. There's Stalker, and that Gran Turismo movie with Clint Eastwood, and basically, that's it. With 30 years of video games to draw from? That's pretty absurd.
>>
>>81841884
Possibly due to the huge amounts of money being involved when making video game move adaptions.
