Is it just me that found the first seasons (1-3) vastly superior? Imo what made the show is Seinfeld-type humor but with a more relaxed, realistic tone, with these well constructed plotslines that slowly leads to disaster. But as the show goes along it becomes increasingly ridiculous and outlandish, relying more in physical humor and other traditional forms of comedy.

I appreciate all the different styles. I think he probably just got bored of doing the same thing over and over. If you watch season 1 and compare season 8, they are vastly different, but season 4 is also vastly different from both. It wasn't a gradual progression into different styles, it was more like a conscious decision.

The show also changes between how closely it strays or follows the season story arch. A couple of seasons don't even have story archs, but some of the seasonal archs are pretty much all encompassing.

Its autership. Its too bad more networks and producers don't give free reign to their creators.
