Not only because Roland is being played by a nigger. They've got the whole tone and chronology wrong. At its core it needs to have a western vibe which the film doesn't.

It's not a perfect comparison, but the same thing happened with adapting "The Golden Compass". Big plans, high concept, A-list cast, parallel world... but they couldn't just trust the source material. "No one will get it!" "Needs MORE CGI!" Roland is the last gunslinger in a "world that has moved on." It's a desert western landscape. There are occasional scenes in New York City in the books, but I can't remember any with Roland himself in NYC. Just other characters who go through doorways into Roland's world (although Roland occasionally inhabits somebody's mind in NYC).

The producers have said the movie is telling a completely different story from the books. And it's also clear they abandoned the western/gunslinger themes and cast an urban guy in an urban environment. It doesn't really resemble the source material at all.

You know what, I'm gonna get this off my chest. This movie looks so bad, it has made me appreciate the ending to the series.

Remember when Roland steps through the door and "mysteriously" forgets everything that happened prior to the beginning of the first book? And supposedly he remembers, or wonders, just how many times he has gone through this cycle? Well, I've to the conclusion that the Dark Tower is actually a sentient being. One which longs to be protected. In order to be protected, the tower uses Roland as its chosen guardian, and when He reaches the tower, it sends him back in time, wiping his memory to prevent a time paradox from happening. Roland however is mortal. So the Dark Tower has fabricated memories that it pulled out of itself, hence why each floor and significance of 19 is part of Rolands' travels. This gives Roland some peace that he is the last of a group, seeking justice, while saving the universe. In reality he was made to be a pawn, a guardian, a protector of the Dark Tower preventing any who would come close to discovering how to even come to it.

But instead we get this shit that continues on. Thanks for shit Sony.

To add on to this, the first book is a very atmospheric chase across the desert. You aren't exactly sure why the Gunslinger is chasing the Man in Black.

The second book is kind of a trippy parallel universe thing where Roland and Jake get two more pals with some really interesting back stories via doorways to different worlds on a beach.

The third book is when it goes full-on fantasy/sci-fi with an abandoned world packed with decaying technology.

The only issue I have is, IIRC, that Suzanna doesn't trust white people and learns to through Roland.

A smaller issue is basically that Roland looked almost exactly like Clint Eastwood from the Dollars trilogy according to Jake.
