They look like Marvel directors alright.
>>

Just don't watch.

Mississippi Grind? Why choose him based on this piece of shite.
>>
>>81815419
Marvel getting them great talented directors

Meanwhile the only people DC can get are hacks who never made anything above mediocre
>>
>>81815553
Disney has a history of choosing very weak directors to helm their movies because they are easy to boss around. The guy doing The Last Jedi is most known for fucking Godzilla. And he's above average in experience.
>>
>>81815500
I should look it up but I'm pretty sure they did Half Nelson.
>>
>>81815509
thats mockingbird, not captain marvel. but i think you knew that and are just trying to get /tv/ agitated
>>
>>81815595
Interesting.
>>
>main character is a woman
>gotta have women direct it
This sort of try hard pandering comes off as pure cringe.
>>
>>81815595
The guy who did Godzilla, Gareth Edwards, did Rogue One, not The Last Jedi. The guy doing The Last Jedi did Brick and Looper.
>>
>>81815595
PROTIP: All studios favor young up-and-coming talent for big blockbusters.
>>
>>81815560
Ant-Man WAS gonna have Edgar Wriggt direct, but he left because the studio wanted a complete Yes-Man

No, that was Rogue One.

Rian Johnson is doing The Last Jedi. He did Looper and Brick.

He left because he dragged his feet over a decade and got butthurt when Marvel asked him to change elements of his old script accordingly.
>>
>>81815694
Marvel isn't really home of auteurs. Shane Black left and he was the last true director doing Marvel movies. The collective pressure from Disney suits and obsessive and childlike fanboys just don't make for a good environment for individual artists to express themselves. It's a high-conformity environment. It's anti-art.
>>
>>81815603
Same shit
>>
>>81815560
7/10 bait these are more troma tier directors feige can push around
>>
>>81815694
This. Back when he was first announced for Ant Man there was so much promise and hype for the MCU. Ant Man was going to be a comedy, Captain America was going to be WW2 kino, Dr Strange was going to be cosmic horror, GotG a space opera - then the arrival of Whedon happened and every film just became a bland quip fest.

You aren't proving him wrong, you know
>>
>>81815789
you think the movie will tackle the rape and impregnation of ms.marvel by her own son?
>>
>>81815810
It started before that really. Something just changed when Disney bought them. It became very formulaic. I guess Avengers was the film where the cancer started metastasizing. But the tumor was Disney. It's such a sharp drop from Iron Man 1 to the rest of the MCU. It sticks out. Iron Man 3 was good too but that was the odd one out really and it burnt Black out.

I hate DC films but End of Watch and Argo are miles better than whatever Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck have ever done.

>>81816561
The greatest strength of "End of Watch" is the chemistry between Gyllenhall and Peña and the dialogue which was 90% ad-libbed. Ayer's plot and direction is actually pretty barebones.
>>
>>81816631
These cucks would need to make a decent movie in order to be worthy of smelling the farts of Wan or Reeves though

Can anyone with honesty say they've seen anything these two people have made? Sounds like very low-key directors hired mostly to do what is expected of them and not much more.

>>81816840

>>
>>81815419
>Anna Boden & Ryan Fleck
Nobodies, and this is going to be another paint by numbers cookie cutter committee directed by proxy flick.

Good job Disney, you're killing this industry faster than I thought you could!
>>
>>81816808
I saw Mississippi Grind because it had Mehndolson and Reynolds. It was crap.
>>
>>81816928
I get that you fucking shitstain.
>>
>>81816812
I don't know why you're so triggered. I'm not saying Ayer was bad. Just that the best part of "End of Watch" wasn't all him. "Suicide Squad" proves his character direction is good but not as great as Gyllenhall and Peña were in that movie. And Ayer's other directorial efforts prove it.

Anyway the performances in Half-Nelson and Mississippi Grind were good. Didn't see the other ones. But it was one of the movie that alongside The Voices convinced me that Ryan Reynolds is an effective dramatic actor when he tries.
>>
>>81815789
She was clearly meant to be in the wrong here, though.
>>
>>81815595
Rian Johnson made Looper, Brick, The Fly and Ozymandias

>>
>>81816899
Well according to the last comics I overread everybody in the Marvel comic universe loves the shit out of her for some reason, so she must be great right? She and that America gurl, they should make a movie about her too!
>>
>>81816950
>multi-billion dollar film studio routinely pumping out massive success
>killing the industry

wat
>>
>>81816962
You think acting isn't part of a director's job? You seem eager to discredit Ayer for End of Watch. Mayhaps some personal agenda behind that?
>>
>>81816808
>>81816812
>>81816808

Half-Nelson is good. It's Kind of a Funny Story missed the mark, it's that annoying type of quirky indie movie. Missisippi Grind was good.

More than anything they are good at getting genuine performances out of actors. Not very original with plot, structure etc. but they get terrific performances out of actors.

The industry will live on as a living corpse, the medium as a creative body is dying. And Disney is at the forefront with the stabbing.

If Disney had two balls they would've never pandered to these mental cases to begin with. Now with MCU and nu-SW pandered to them, they feel validated and also justified. And that has also strengthened them and are therefore on the war path.
>>

End of Watch yes, but Argo is shill tier trash on the same level as The Artist

>>
I HATE THIS GENRE OF MOVIE I CANT SEEM TO STOP WATCHING OR TALKING ABOUT
>>
>>81817126
Disney doesn't really pander to them more than anyone else. It's the comic books that do, but I think those are largely just left alone by Disney
>>
>>81815419
The Marvel films pipeline has pretty much been perfected at this point so the choice of director doesn't matter that much. Scripting and storyboarding is already done by the time the director is brought onboard. All the action sequences has already been planned out and are shot by the second unit. The production on these films function like a tv series, there's a house style you have to conform to, the show-runner (Feige) has final say on everything and your job as the director is essentially just to get the shots on time and budget. You can get away with inserting some of your own ideas and flair here and there but otherwise everything is already set by the producers.
>>
>>81815419
Who gives a shit.
>>
>>81817345
Clearly you
>>
>>81817316
This, there is a reason they hire directors from tv shows. This is the Game of Thrones of movies, just with worse production values
>>
>>81817316
An assembly-line production in its true sense. At this point, a director is a mere formality for Disney. The automation of filmmaking completed.

>the congress will be real in your lifetime

Actors are the worst thing to happen to cinema
>>
>>81817316
And I forgot to mention that virtually all of the shot that are purely or mostly CGI is handled by the visual effects director with minimal input from the director. Best example to see the contrast between live action and CGI segments is in 'Avengers' and 'Age of Ultron'. Everything that the visual effects director was responsible for looks fine, perfectly competent. But when you have a transistion to the live action footage shot by Whedon it's like being slapped in the face with a dead fish.

What transpired with Suicide Squad must've been a mess behind the scenes. Ayer was given no time to prep for shooting. I believe that WB realized near the end that it wasn't coming out the way they expected (Ayer said so himself) so they just tried to salvage the most they could from it. I think what Ayer had was very rough due to WB idiots not giving him enough prep time. He deserved better treatment and more time, we can all agree on that.

Marvel and DC always go for unconventional indie directors for their movies now.

The Russos most notable work prior to "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" was "You, Me and Dupree".

James Gunn wrote Troma movies and directed grossout horror movies.

The guy handling "Shazam" only did supernatural horror movies.

Out of the two guys who dropped out of "The Flash" one was the creator of the historical figures with monster comedy horror spoof and the other did black dramas.

Until he came back. And the Russo Brothers that the peek or their careers is actually MCU. That's sad. Watiti at least have What we do in the shadows?

I can't even name something that character has done aside from Nextwave. Nextwave was pretty fun, but I'm guessing it's too "reddit" by today's standards.
Either way Carol Danvers kind of teeters between boring and train wreck

Disney is the bad one here. It seems a frigging hell to have a contract with them as director. I think there was a red light when Whedon left, damn even when Favreau left Iron Man 3 and left Black as the director. And Iron Man 3 it's really shitty, it's so bad scripted and I get mad every time I remember what they did to the Mandarin. It was unacceptable.
The other symptom I can perceive is weird that Disney/Marvel can't get any major director now, the last one is Taika but it seems he's doing what Disney/Marvel told him to and in the end he did what he wanted?
There's a reason why Netflix's Cinematic Universe is working better for us than "family friendly and always the same" MCU.
>>
>>81820147
You've been saying this for years. Get a life already.
>>
>>81820970
They don't go for major directors. There's a difference.

And Whedon didn't quit as much as he was dropped.
>>
>>81816342
LMAO, no, they don't
>>
>>81821042
Whedon left and was dropped. It went both ways. What they did to Wright? It's obvious that Disney/MCU don't want any major director bc they're a pain in the ass: Look Wright case, they used his script in the end. Pray to Ant-Man 2 to have a good writer or it's gonna be a hell boring shitty movie.
Let's not forget Kenneth, he was dropped too and decided to hire a GoT director than Patty Jenkins. Patty Jenkins was dropped too, in the most shitty way possible and Portman left too (another major actress). let's not forget that MCU wanted Del Toro as director of the first Thor film and he declined.

>>
>>81821594
>What they did to Wright?
He took forever to come up with a script
By the time he did, Marvel asked him to connect Ant-man with the rest of the Marvel Universe.
Wright said no and left.
