No, the suicide is his fantasy of getting out of that mess of a press conference, and also represents the moment he decided to finally pull the plug on that sci-fi epic he was in the middle of pre-production on (and how ending production would be a form of career suicide as a lot was riding on that film, not necessarily for Guido's entire career but certainly marks a change in how he will approach filmmaking; note, given how famously autobiographical 8 1/2, the difference in style and subject matter in Fellini's work before and after this film)
