That's because they were objectively the best ones. Their characters were based in island lore, which inherently made the most interesting. The best "non-islander" was Locke.

That being said, fuck LOST. Terrible in the end with no payoff. And, yes, it was owed since payoff was teased and implied. Long form television is dead to me after watching this shit weekly as it aired. The journey was fun as fuck, but the destination was shit.
