Firstly, towers 1 and 2 collapsed from the top, down, clearly. Yet they also plummeted to Earth at freefall speed.

Secondly, if one of the lower floors "failed," then the floors above it would have to "fail" as well, each of them as they impact the ground. It would take time. The only way to achieve a uniform, freefall implosion like we see with all three of the buildings is to use explosives, as regularly happens in controlled demolitions.
