The mass positive reception to this episode has only further strengthened my belief /who/ is filled with 13 year old boys who think everything related to their favorite show is amazing. They don't have the ability to critically evaluate it because "mum it's my favorite show".

But let's be honest for a moment, yes maybe it can be argued the quality of the show isn't as great as it was 5 or so years ago. Maybe it can be argued that the show is no longer event television and that's a factor towards why it is not as popular.

But the real reason is that the mass general public are superficial, shallow and would rather The Doctor was a 30 something runabout guy with funny hair. It's just the truth. Unless you are conventionally attractive you're generally not going to be popular as a lead in television or film.

What I draw the line at is people saying it should be, like it will harbour a new age of Doctor Who where the Doctor can battle stereotypes.

First off, he's a Time Lord, basically a Space Nazi alongside the Daleks.
Second, Time Lords with changing gender and race at random, and also being fucking aliens without the whole enslaving their own race thing, probably don't have much in the way of sexism or racism to do with their own race. Only other species.
