S1 starts slow, and gets tedious in the middle, but I remember the finale being the tying of the bow around that tied it all up incredibly well. I watched the show for the quality of it despite being unpleasant to watch until the finale. The finale is where I was hooked and completely on board. S2 is still the same type of show, but there is something about the S1 finale that almost acts as a secret door that has you ready for everything that follows it.

I small part of me is really disappointed that they brought back the hunter just to explain him away as crazy. I understand the point is to ground some of the mystery as being the simplest explanation (so by turn, Kevin probably is nu-Jesus), but at the same time "let the mystery be" was part of what sold me on the show to begin with. It's much more powerful for him to just be a stranger who leads Kevin astray then vanishes.

i think leftovers is what he tried to do with lost but failed. He tried to say lost wasnt about the mysteries but almost every episode ended on a cliffhanger about the mysteries and major characters were motivated purely by the mysteries and they had the lost alternate experience all about the mysteries whereas in this everyone who cares about what the depature was is in a cult or dying religon.

Great episode, it even made me forget why i hated the previous seasons, but the REMEMBER fags at the lake made me remember.

Still there is something about the atmosphere: even if I don't appreciate the parts the whole thing works for me, especially with the main theme playing in the background.

They have a shitton of stuff to go through in the remaining episodes and I'm thankful for the low ratings that will allow show to be concise.

I love this show so much. I did a big rewatch before the premiere and it was great. I remember when they originally aired I thought the second season wasn't as good as the first but now I see the highs were just as high as the first and it was much more coherent and focused. TV lately has just felt like such a chore, then the premiere came out and it was so much fun just to see the Leftovers gang again.
