>The Man from U.N.C.L.E., Guy Ritchie’s fun and surprising film adaptation of the classic television series, crash-landed in the summer of 2015 to middling financial results and no great acclaim, despite being really, really enjoyable to watch. Now, as /Film reports, the stylish 1960s spy thriller may be getting a second chance. Armie Hammer, who starred in the film along with Henry Cavill, Alicia Vikander, and Elizabeth Debiki, told /Film that producer and co-screenwriter (with Ritchie) Lionel Wigram is working on a sequel:

>I called Lionel Wigram, the producer of the movie, and he and Guy produced it and wrote it all together. I was like, “Dude, what’s the deal? I get asked about this shit all the time. Can you just write a sequel?” He was like, “You know what? Yeah, fuck it, I’ll do it. Sure, I’ll write a sequel.” I was like, “If you write one, I’m sure we can get one made,” so who knows? Today is the first day I’ve actually told anyone that story. I only told one other person who asked. Apparently, the sequel is being written right now. No pressure, Lionel!

I really don't know why that movie bombed.
It might not be absolute kino but it's really fucking fun and comfy, and the main cast is quite good.
>>
>>81741115
I fucking loved that movie.Top tier cast and soundtrack.

It's the definition of 6/10 and none of the cast were big names at the time

Good, it was really fucking good. I really regretted not going to see it when it was out in theaters, and that's rare as hell for me.

You're not wrong, but in this film it suited his rigid russian character.

A forgettable movie if there ever was one.

I didn't realize the original tv show was a mish-mash of cliches, not suited for cinema!

Man from UNCLE made me realize how much I've missed the sexy and stylish action films. It had just the right amount of self-awareness, never becoming too serious or too light-hearted. It's a difficult line to walk and Guy Ritchie walked it perfectly.

>>81741393
This. Stop trying to make him a star.

Warner Brothers released it the same day as Straight Outta Compton, one of the biggest movies of 2015.
>>
I'm looking forward to this.
Ritchie did everything right, especially when he made the awesome storm the castle montage.
Much better than another prolonged boring action scene. The music in that scene was great, too.
>>
I'm ok with this. I liked the first one.
>>
Watched it in the theatres and bought it on blu-ray. No regrets. I fucking loved it.

This and Sicario were my finest two theatrical weeks ever.
>>
>>81742132
It had zero marketing. I honestly had never heard of the movie until some anon recommended it to me. People would've loved this if they actually went and saw it.
>>
>>81742212
And Man from U.N.C.L.E. is pretty fucking old and not that nostalgic overseas.
>>
>>81741393

I think you got confused, his name is Henry Cavill
>>
>>81741448
Really? He completely took me out of it. The only character he's proven to be good as so far is being a smug rich fuck
>>
>>81741115
Awesome! I really enjoyed that movie and couldn't understand why it fell flat at the theaters.
>>
>>81742212

That too.

It's the same exact situation that happened with The Nice Guys, which I consider a spiritual sequel to this.

Is there any movie series that did sell well at first but studios pumped them out until they had enough name recognition to start printing money?
>>
>>81743305
Fast and Furious?
>>
Crucify me for this at your whim, but the movie was enjoyable until it completely fell apart in the third act.

>that buildup for an action scene which is actually just them doing a brief car chase swapping computer chips, and that other tease for an action scene which is actually just "hehehe we can just build blow up their submarine from a distance :pppppp"
>that "we are friends out of nowhere, even though none of this makes sense since i was ready to kill you just a few seconds before" reveal

Really a shame.
>>
>>81743829
>we are friends out of nowhere
He gave back his father's replica, which Armie considered honorable enough that he would spare him. They never became friends.
>>
>>81743869
>They never became friends.
Right... (and forgive if I'm getting this muddled up in my mind since I've only seen it once), but that's why it then cues to the scene of them smoking a cigar together, burning up the microchip, bragging about we "are da new UNCLE :)"...

They're friends enough that they betray their own governments mate.

But I'd forgotten about the watch, so fair point, but it's retarded anyways since Cavill lost it for him anyways.
>>
>>81741115
This was a good film.

Loved the relationship and scenes between Armie and Henry.

Both goverments wanted something disastrous for each side. Would you as a spy give your goverment the ultimate edge and tech in defeating another country? For what? Patriotism? Loyalty?

America and Soviet Russia are about as dependable as fucking Judas buddy.

just watched Sellers' The Party and it reminded me a lot of Tati, i'm due for a rewatch
>>
great, really fun flick
>>
>>81744511
>Patriotism? Loyalty?
Eh, Cavill was fleshed out more than that, but Hammer was patriotism all the way in what his character, and the friendship never really felt like it bloomed with him, so it was weird.

He seemed like your typical "i genuinely want to kill all my enemies" brainwashed-type, even though that most of his angst is mommy issues.

Cavill though, being "devil-may-care", and "am only in the army to escape prison time" thing, well, at least there it worked.

i watched this movie twice. i thought it was real fun. i don't know why people keep saying Guy Richie isn't making good movies anymore. he makes fantastic movies still.
hopefully the sequel works out.
>>
>>81746561
King Arthur might be good but I fucking -hate- Charlie Hunnam. Also why does he look like some fucking clubgoing fratfag in it?
>>
>>81741115
I remember watching it thinking "Is this shit made specifically for me?"

Great movie, Guy Ritchie's best since Snatch. Hoping he keeps up with King Arthur, though I kinda doubt it.
>>
Wait so Cavils character was basically a master thief that got caught and the CIA decided to make him an agent?
>>
I loved this movie. Mainly because of Henry Cavill 2bh.
>>
>>81741115
>tfw that's the real reason Armie and Henry were hanging out
>>
>>81741115
Thank fuck the movie wasn't a big success or had too much attention, so that now the whole of /tv/ spergs can admit to like it, as this thread shows

But Nice Guys is a spiritual successor to KKBB
>>
>>81749432

I loved Nice Guys, but man was it nothing like the trailer led me to believe.
>>
>no marketing

most of you count "no marketing" as not seeing a commercial or advertisement for it.

I saw plently of commercials for this and the home release. just because something doesn't do well doesn't mean it wasn't marketed well.

success has no rhyme or reason.

also debicki is a qt
>>
Needs to be more of these sorts of spy movies desu, the ones like this and kingsmen

Whens kingsmen 2 out
>>
Fuck the movie.
Put some debicki pics/webms.

>I was like, “Dude, what’s the deal? I get asked about this shit all the time. Can you just write a sequel?”

A treasure to the family fortune, this proud example of careful breeding and private education
>>
>>81741156
I agree totally.
>>
>>81749972
Basically this.
Idk what it is but i genuinely find the best action films of the last 5 years all seem to be spy movies.

The only exceptions I can think of are the nice guys and drive
>>
>>81741156
The middle part dragged on and on with no end.
>>
The movie didn't succeed because they didn't make individual movies about Illya and Napoleon and the girl first, before putting them all together.

It's been scientifically proven that Americans are to dumb too understand an ensemble piece without watching a 1h45m* ""film"" about each character beforehand.

*any longer and you will surpass the attention span of the American
>>
The only person who I've shown this to was my friend John. But I had to drop him as a friend after he tried to rat our weed dealer out for selling weed. Piece of shit.

More of a parody than a haha joke, and either way, being a film that 'old', in whenever you think of /tv/, 5 people would get it all the same. And that's probably an exaggeration

btw, based Tati
>>
o fuck i hope this goes though
>>

I liked that movie mainly because the direction was strongly stylized

But while I was watching it I really just couldn't stop thinking about Austin Powers the whole time
