You do know comics are for little children right? Are you genuinely emotionally invested in dudes dressing up in spendex punching evil bad guys?

MC is fine since even after all those films people still want to see.
DC has the most iconic heroes and still doesn't come close.

I don't understand why all these DCposts ignore the actually pretty gud CIA/nolan batman movies and cling to heavy-handed Snyder crap

They're both good but Snyder ones are more rewarding to rewatch as he goes full autism with every frame. I would say you don't really appreciate them until you've seen them 2-3 times and catch all the build-up and callbacks. Nolan movies are more plot oriented and while great aren't as fulfilling to rewatch.

No they're not. Atleast DC nails the basics of filmmaking and actually conveys the feel of comic books into the big screen.
>>
>>81732981
His frame autism is bad though, yes it looks pretty but it disrupts the actual flow of the film with stupid pretty pictures. They took away his slow-mo for BvS though so I guess that's something to be thankful for.
>>
>>81733005
>outsider wasn't here during the TDK days
You can bitch and whine about how bad capeshit is but it shows you're just incredibly butthurt that Marvel is so childish and shit compared to DC and Fox.
>>
>>81733040
No it doesn't. Good photography doesn't disrupt from a film. The opposite applies. But I understand you trying to paint it as a negative. After all, having to defend the MCU, you are more or less forced to defend bad photography and visual effects.
>>
>>81732927
literally a 1 sec shot.
>>
>>81733082
Good photography and cinematics are great unless you have 15 minutes of looking at scenery in the middle of a dramatic moment or action sequence. He has no sense of priority. I think someone must have helped him on BvS cause it IS a lot better than his standard fare, slow mo being one of the noticable differences.
>>
>>81733085
All of Civil War is like that. It's hilarious seeing people defend Civil War only to turn around and nitpick the smallest aspects of BvS.

Really makes ya think....

What scene in BvS is 15 minutes looking into the scenery?

I honestly feel sorry for you. The Stockholm Syndrome of suffering 15 MCU films and you come out criticizing good cinematography because Kevin Feige has ruined all your standards. It's quite sad really.
>>
>>81733054
Why are you pretending you were? Do you not remember the review that changed everything? Of course you don't because you weren't actually here.
>>

Also the Burton Batman movies.

They're just trolls or retards too heavily invested in the idea of a cinematic universe.
>>

That is all it is doing for time being. Nothing memorable.
Then again only two films have come out. Maybe they do something.
>conveys the feel of comic books

>>81733123
Man of Steel is a visual masterpiece. And one that several MCU directors attempted to ape and failed at. Snyder is the geniune material. MCU directors the Chinese fake.
>>
>>81733149
It wasn't so much an issue in BvS but it was definitely a problem with Watchmen and 300, Sucker Punch was nothing but. I don't remember MoS cause it's been a while, BvS is his best film by a large margin and even then some of the scenes with the weird corn field looking shit are extra drawn out. Lots of time spent spinning around statues and stuff. Establishing shots are also a bit longer than they could have been but I think whoever led that editing team did a pretty good job.
>>
>>81733159
You weren't here during the TDK days. It shows. Capeshit wasn't even a term until Avengers came and ruined the genre. You want to drag down the whole genre into Disney's disgustingly shallow standards. That is failing.
>>
>>81732614
>You do know comics are for little children right?

No. They're for teens and adults. Comics are not, nor have ever been, for children.
>>

>>

>>

There is no substance to MoS's photography, it's literally color filters and lens flares. Zack Snyder has gone on record saying he does it because it looks cool.

You're such a dipshit.

Explain how those promo shots tie into *anything* going on in that season. One fucking thing. You can't, because they're precisely what you accuse Snyder of - empty mimicry, even though his fans can tie it all back to themes that have been running since the first scene in MoS.

Calling it "headcanon" only makes you look like an obstinate petty little fucktard at this point.

>>
>>81734677
Well there's so many different comic book versions of every DC character it's amazing comic guys have kept up thus far. I really just want Batman to stay close to the TDKR version in a justice league setting. That's the only one where Affleck can possibly fit anyway and you can tell snyder took VISUAL inspiration from. Directly. Blatantly. He did switch the meaning backwards and it worked out interestingly from a probably-accidental fridge logic kind of perspective.

>>81734992
Batman didn't actually decide on fighting Superman until a good way into the movie. Before that, he wanted the Kryptonite as a safety mechanism against Superman, not as a weapon. That all changed as the media started to wear him down painting Superman as a harbinger of death. Conveniently enough the work of Lex Luthor orchestrating the attacks.
>>
>>81734626
Is he smart?

He tries to get Superman to kill batman, and tells him his entire plan and just HOPES that Superman doesn't tell Batman, which he doesn't because he is also an idiot.

Superman forgets he has X-Ray vision and super hearing and goes to Batman.

Then Superman doesn't talk about Lex Luthor's plan and actually starts fighting Batman.

And the first thing Batman tries is to kill Superman with machine guns because he is retarded as well.He saw him go trough buildings like nothing but maybe a 50 cal can do the job

Then they fight and Superman takes a Kriptonite Gas grenade to the face, which is fine, but then tries to actually kill Batman with a decapitating punch to the head.

Then they fight some more, and Superman sees batman reload the grenade launcher for 10 seconds (i counted) and does nothing, i guess he forgot about his own super speed.

And after the fight, we find out that Lex had planned to

Lex is an idiot for thinking that Superman would not approach Batman in a better way.

Superman is an idiot for throwing batman multiple times instead of asking him for help.

Batman is an idiot because he decided to use Kriptonite (which as far as he knows, is the only thing that hurts kriptonians) as 3 grenades (that dissolve into the air) and 1 spear head buried on the other side of the building.

Karen digging around death and murder, Frank is David holding the head of Goliath, a man willing to face overwhelming odds for what he believes is right. Matt represents St. Sebastian, a martyr. Just like Matt, willing to sacrifice himself for the sake of others.

It's not heavy handed because Daredevil is a show about a religious character and the morality he inherited from that background.
Then there's this, from Michaelangelo's Last Judgment. I'm sure you can infer what it refers to on your own. I think it's better to get this sort of in your face imagery in promo shots, instead of awkwardly cramming it inside a movie for no apparent reason.

Quality of Marvel films have definitely been going downhill.. I loved Iron Man 1, but somehow all the films they made after that have been garbage.

It's like watching the same film over and over again. The coloring/gradient is the same. The soundtrack is shit and I mean I like fun just as everyone but some of the quips are really forced.

Marvel's problem now lies in it's IP since they have no good stories left to make into a movie. They need Fox's license (which will never happen) in order to save their skin.

I honestly prefer DC at this point because they actually try to do something different but somehow the movies they make are always polarizing. Still, if they want to they can always do a hard reboot of their universe with The Flash.

>>81735106
The only information that WAS leaked to batman was the russian merc's phone clone and that is where he got the ship stuff from. It's really hard to say when he actually started giving fucks about superman but it's before they met or any of the media shit happened. I guess the middle east whatever happened, but that's not something batman deals in anyway.

If there is a set plan of Lex to fuck with batman specifically, it is not portrayed well. Considering Lex was stalking other meta-people I guess he could have prepared for batman to prepare for superman. He was a smart dude.
>>
>>81735078
Zack Snyder can not hide his analogies for shit.

Symbolism is supposed to be subtle.

I am amazed that Superman doesnt have a giant beard and a crown of spikes
>>
>>81735171
Batman was preparing himself, as in classical Batman fashion. He didn't have faith that Superman would forever be good, so he goes out for the kryptonite. But it's during the process of the film and Bruce's development his view of Superman worsening to the point where he basically admits to himself that this is going to be his suicide fight against a God. It starts of as a precaution and it turns into a self-fulfilling prophecy. And this descent is further fueled by Lex who keeps feeding images to him of Superman's supposed destruction.

Lex is absolutely instrumental in Batman's conflict with Superman.
>>
>>81735118
>I honestly prefer DC at this point because they actually try to do something different
But that's the thing, though. They don't. Every time people complain about something in those movies, they go back and fuck with them. Not enough quips? Let's reshoot Suicide Squad, and cram a joke here and there in BvS. No retaliation for Metropolis' destruction in MoS? Let's make the next movie about that. Not enough character development? Let's have a scene of Lois and Clark made completely awkward by Cavill's lack of being an actor. Let's also ape Guardians of the Galaxy by making Suicide Squad have even more licensed music just for lols.
It seems every step of the way WB is playing catch up, adapting to whatever Disney does and neutering people who have some manner of style or voice in favor of trying to follow the trend.
So no, I don't think they're trying to be different. They're trying to be marvel and completely sucking at it.

Yeah, except in what way is Matt Goliath? In what way is he even the underdog to Matt? He handily kicks his ass nearly every time they cross psths.

And Karen's image more readily hints at her preoccupation with the Punisher than it does anything to do with Caravaggio's subject matter. That painting is typically associated with him translating the Vulgate Bible.

Now here's your "no apparent reason:"

MoS on through to BvS has had a recurring motifs about false gods, idols, worship, and god-making. The religious imagery(of which there are several kinds), is to cue the audience in to how people are more and more consciously coming to view Clark as a god.

It's the same thing that worried Pa Kent, the same thing that concerns Perry White: how people would react to the knowledge that a being like Clark walked among them.

What's even funnier is that everyone shat on man of steel back when it came out. You'd only see one or two idiots defending the soundtrack, if anything. This obsession with the movie started years after it came out, by some mental patient or other.
Color filters and christ symbols can't fix a broken narrative, and the same holds true for BvS.

No they fucking don't, they are both unfeeling monsters who clash because the movie is called Batman versus Superman to rake in ten gorillion dollars on the title alone. Superman destroys cities for the greater good and brings destruction wherever he goes for the ultimate benefit of humanity (if Zod won the world is fucked instead of just one city). Batman brutally, relentlessly murders countless thugs and tears through public streets with no regard for civillians, fucking destroying the streets and blowing up buildings all just to stop Superman from doing his job better than he does. I'll agree on stupid subplots, the whole bruce wayne apocalypse vision thing was retarded and added nothing. Wonder woman was actually one of the better parts of the film but didn't belong at all.

The motivations were spot on but the acting was just incredibly bad. Batman is presented as kind of an insane killer vigilante and that's a cool direction to go. His motivations are obvious but they don't fit the canon and that triggers the comic nerds.

Superman was just being called out for not being the god everyone wanted him to be, thats a pretty common superman theme, he didn't have a real character arc unless you count self sacrificing.... more?

Yes they do. Their conflict is based on Bruce's belief that pure good cannot exist and that as a rule, Superman will turn on mankind eventually. Batman is the cynicist hero, Superman the optimist hero. Batman traumatized by past experiences and thus leading him down his dark path, Superman turned into an icon after his victory over Zod and becoming a near-religious object. Marvel has actual character writing for their heroes though, the internal stuff is what they're better at.
>>

Too bad the DCEU uses none of these good villains.

>>
>>81736022
Batman is the real villain for the first half of the film though, that's intentional. He deliberately kills badguys. He's not a pacifist good guy in BvS. Him trying to kill Superman is .. justifiable? to his stuff. Superman makes it clear he WILL stop Batman and so he has to go all the way in a brutal batman fashion.

When Lex starts showing his true colors Batman sort of moves back from being a villain and by the end he's redeemed.
>>
>>81735927
>No he didn't
He tells Superman what he needs to know.

He knows Luthor has Martha, and that he has to kill Batman to get her back.

He could look for her fimself because he has X-Ray vision, super speed, can fly, is bullet proof and has super hearing

Or he could try to ask Batman for help, instead of doing what Lex wants him to do, Supes could say:

"Batman, Lex Luthor has my mother and he wants me to kill you, help me take him down"

It took me 7 seconds to type that.

If Superman had done that he could have save his mom 4 minutes after Luthor leaves in the helicopter

>He bests him by shooting him in the face with a slingshot (9mm).

That only really works if you buy the vigilante who kills as the righteous one. Sympathetic? Absolutely. Badass? Without question. But righteous? Of the two of them, Matt's the "saintly" one.

Don't misunderstand me - I like this show quite a bit, but trying to tie the promo imagery to the themes of season two in a meaningful way is a bit of a stretch. At best, you can say that the imagery conveys how they think of themselves, not what we're to think of them, and certainly not what the people of their world think of them.
>>
>>81732768
>DC has the most iconic heroes
Nah, bar Batman and Superman they don't have shit but superman recolors. In terms of villains, I think Batman and Spider-Man are evenly matched. Superman only has a good one, and everything else is pretty shitty on both sides.
>>
>>81736123
Precisely.

I know that Lex is supposed to be unhinged in this universe.
But the way that they portray him, it just doesn't make sense, for a "realistic" superhero movie, i have a hard time believing any of them are real people
>>
>>81736087
Lex is a pretty good villain, even in BvS. He taunts superman to his face and tells him there's NOTHING he can do to stop him. After pushing Lois off a building just to get his attention.

That is so fucking Lex.
>>
>>81736088
I understand the point but it is not well executed at all. Throughout the entire first half Batman views superman as an evil, inhuman thing and he wants nothing more than to kill him (again for no real reason) and when he literally has a blade against his neck he stops because Superman reveals that, shockingly he has a mother. Lex Luthor is probably the worst, most poorly integrated character in the entire film as he serves no purpose but to spout rhetoric and pretentious metaphors and then birth a giant retarded monster to make Batman and Superman team up.
>>
>>81735978
Sarah Jessica Parker was going to play that role originally but she went on to greener pastures.
>>

>Pretty good villain
No he is not
>>
>>81736203
It wasn't that he HAS a mother, Batman was fucking hallucinating and shit non stop. The fact that their moms are both named Martha is what saved his ass. Triggering the Batman by telling him he's repeating his past failures. Batman wouldn't care if Superman lived or died but he would do ANYTHING to undo another crime alley deal. That's core batman in any interpretation and it's literally the only "good" batman has left at that point.
>>

Except he opens up by revealing he knows who Clark is, then tells him if he flies away or goes anywhere other than where he's supposed to go, they kill her. He correctly banked on Clark not gambling on his mother's life.

You are correct about his interactions with Bruce, but he was trying to cow a man that you can't intimidate.

Stop him from what? Lex has no genuine motivation whatsoever other than fucking with Superman.
>>81736248
I'm aware of what the Martha thing means but I didn't mention it because it is so fucking stupid. The fact that Batman, about to murder the most powerful person on Earth who he wants dead more than anything and believes is fundamentally evil is stopped because their mothers turn out to have the same name is the most comically ridiculous thing ever, and then they immediately become good friends. It then transitions from this grim fight to the death to a scene of batman helping superman save his mommy and then slinging a Marvel quip.

Snyder defenders have lost the ability to criticize a film for "quips" because in a desperate attempt to ride the back of Marvel BvS introduced quips and Justice League is going all in with them.
>>
>>81736150
I'm saying that even without a direct connection, religious imagery is more relevant to Matt's character than it is to Clark's in Snyder's movie. Especially considering how he acts, how he deals with problems presented to him and the message he delivers.

Superman at that point believes Batman IS a villain. He knows he has to ask help but he's still trying to be pure good and never compromise (and failing). It makes some sense, but not the optimal choice I think for the movie.

>>81736376
Lex is set up really well actually. It's really hamfisted with his hatred of authority figures just blatantly laid out with his dad stuff and the interactions with the senator. He hates authority and he hates God for not being perfect AND he hates that Superman is perceived AS a God. The thing he wants to kill first and foremost is Superman's IMAGE.

>>81736442
It's just so fucking.... gapped. You have like the really good villains in Marvel like Magneto with deep tragic backstories and shit that work well for character driven stories that Marvel excels at but then you immediately jump way way way out to Thanatos and that nonsense over 9000 2D cartoon villains.

>>81736459
The difference is that Batman's villains are like... irredeemable at their core. Marvel doesn't have anything like that except charicatures of villains.
>>
>>81736355
There is nothing wrong with a sympathetic villain. Any villain that has a decent motivation is somewhat sympathetic automatically (Dr. Doom, Hitler), and a villain without a a decent motivation is automatically a 2D nothing (The Joker). >The difference is that Batman's villains are like... irredeemable at their core. Marvel doesn't have anything like that except charicatures of villains.
That's just fanboy nonsense, just because marvel's villains seem relateable, it doesn't mean they don't murder and steal and rape like any good ole fashioned criminal. Magneto has good points, but he's also into genocide and murder. Galactus is just hungry and trying to feed himself. Dr. Doom honestly believes, in his head, that the only way the world can be a better place is under his rule. It goes on like that. They're semi-complex characters who had a bad day, just like batman's villains.
>>
>>81736667

>>
>>81736667
Well Galactus is one of those 2D shits nobody cares about but stuff like Dr. Doom and Magneto BELIEVE they're correct and usually they cause doubts in the heroes too. That's their strength is their sympathy. Nobody has sympathy for... scarecrow or fucking zsasz holy shit you want 2D that's your man. But he's still an effective villain because he's NOT super powered and still terrifying. Heroes have to actually go out of their way to stop people from dying. They're not worrying about saving the planet/universe/comic sales.
>>
>>81736382
>religious imagery is more relevant to Matt's character than it is to Clark's in Snyder's movie.

Yeah, just go on and ignore the parts about worship and god-making, even though that even carries over into the Suicide Squad, of all things. I expect no less from you at this point.

Oh, totally. But that sort of misses the point of applying religious imagery o a character that *is* devoutly religious st his core. He's comparing apples to oranges and saying that the more obvious use is superior simply because it's more applicable, all while disregarding that the religious imagery in MoS and BvS is there conveying something else entirely.
>>
>>81736796
Not only that, but his decision not to kill, his constant struggle to do the right thing, his defending people for pennies and so on, all stem from his self-sacrificial catholic morality. Matt a good catholic boy full of them guiltz.
>>
>>81736821
He's so far beyond fault or anything. He's more force of nature than character. And yeah, I wasn't saying that DC had no sympathetic anti-villain types either. It's got a lot but that type of villain doesn't really do justice as the primary antagonist UNLESS you have an equally sympathetic villain and all that.

DC heroes tend to be a little too wooden to handle that kind of character story full time. Marvel heroes do a lot better and yet aren't being used in that context cause the big team movies are in. Sympathetic villains won't work for that kind of set up I don't think.

Even the high-power justice league baddies tend to be less 2D though, plus they have other teams/events that they have to deal with that are... 2D but compelling. Not like Galactus.
