Finn is the "every man" character, which hasn't really been done with a main Star Wars character in the movies yet. He's not as skilled as the others (he almost gets taken out by another stormtrooper with a charged stick), he wants to run away from the problem, and he can't bring himself to follow orders while he's a stormtrooper himself.

He's super loyal to Rey and Poe, though, in contrast to him constantly being called a traitor by First Order people, and he tries to fight Kylo, even though he first-hand saw him stop a blast in mid-air with the Force and being unable to melee another grunt like himself.

I legit like Finn more than any other character in TFA. I guarantee you he's going to have his "Sam in LotR" moment in the last movie.

That's not how real fighting works. Everything looks like it's perfectly timed and the only time there's a fumble is when the plot needs to happen. Like when Obi Wan fights Maul after Qui Gon he looks fucking pissed but then goes back to perfectly time fighting like it was all done ahead of time for a production at a theme park. Redemption twists are just lazy writing plot devices to make the character seem more "complicated".

I suspect that he will lose the mask in The Last Jedi and stop being a wannabe Darth Vader after Luke tells him about the true last moments of Vader to try to reedem Kylo back, but that will only cement Kylo even more on the Dark Side while actually calling Vader weak because he felt the pull of the light, where Kylo straight up murdered his own father while feeling the same pull.
And maybe that's what that shot of the destroyed Kylo mask in the new trailer is about, Kylo dismissing the image of Darth Vader alltogether and becoming even more enraged and powerful because of it, maybe even killing Snoke at it.

I wasn't even aware of the term, Mary Sue, but when I saw Rey do shit she wasn't supposed to do, I called her Broken. It's a term we use when Proponents in a media, namely games or comics, has way too much power. Like at one point, Madara became Broken. Luke was a stand in for us the watchers, as was Anakin, and in both cases they were believable Protagonist. Even Obi-wan becoming the lead Protagonist was believable in Episode 3. That would have flew, sure we would have bitched about the change in the lore but announcing her ability then having her use said abilities, well, it would have been fun to see Kylo and Snoke brainstorm how to take down the goddess of the force.

Instead we got a nobody who isn't only a Master at all things force related, but is instantly loved by everyone, and can fly the falcon, knowing intimately what every gear and switch and lever does, even though, it's a CUSTOM built Freighter. Meaning, the ones who flew it added periodically bits to it that aided them in smuggling. So one lever helps it banks tight corners while adjusting thrust with another lever, while coaxing more juice out of the inertia dampers with another leaver and so on. Rey gets in there, and within a few seconds, she's a proficient Falcon pilot.

Why were the prequels so hated? The passion wasn't there anymore. The Force Awakens did well because of people's surface level views on movies. They didn't mind if it was a rehash because TFA did everything they wanted, it was something familiar to the general public, nothing really stood out, it was just a movie made to sold as a brand. It also contained "The Epic Diversity Cast™" which is a plus for the general public
