She broke up with her boyfriend, a dude I knew, and she talked to me about it. She wasn't taking it well cause he was her first fuck. I decided I'd play the long game to let her get over the dude and then make my move.

Caught feelings pretty quick, like as soon as I knew she was single. But again I waited because her ex was all she talked about. I said all of the bullshit you say to someone to try and make them move on but it's not something anyone can do for you, it's just something that happens. So I kept waiting.

About six months go by and even though now I'm one of her better friends (she texts me almost daily, always happy to see me and wants me at every party she goes to) she keeps bringing up the ex almost every time we talk. By this point I'm so fucking nervous around her that I'm nearly having anxiety attacks cause I don't want to fuck anything up. I tell my roommate about her and he "wants to be my wingman". Roommate gets drunk and quickly tells her how I feel. Not his right to say it, but if it weren't for him, I'd never have done anything.

She plans to move to California. I decide it's time to make my move. I cook her dinner. At the dinner she says she's "hooking up" with another dude I know. "Just sex" and then she's moving. I get drunk later and we talk about it. She says she "can't give me what I want". She says I'm handsome and likes me a lot but doesn't want a boyfriend before moving. I understand but it hurts. She moves a month later after not talking since that night.

Now I drink about it. It's been a while, but I still feel for her. I'm a virgin loser but that's gotta be the closest thing to love I'll know.

I don't think of her all the time or anything and I'm definitely over the hump. It was a BAD few months after that night, nightly drinking, frequent anxiety attacks, being a stupid shut in. I've improved, but still need to work on it.

It's funny how hard it is to "move on" and forget it all, or at least remember without it impacting you so hard. I've even hooked up with two girls since then (didn't fuck, but still) and yet it felt empty to me. I feel like I could have had something real with her, and I'd like that feeling again with someone else but it's hard to stop being jaded about it when it's only hurt you in the past.
