I wasn't as into this movie as I wanted to be. I loved the kids' relationship and every bit of information given about the vampire, but every scene of the boy on his own or in school (which was a lot of the movie) just made me feel bored and want to get back to the scenes where they're together. All of those human parts felt like commercial breaks in the middle of a really good movie to me.

I heard the book goes more into the vampire's backstory. Anybody here who has read and can recommend it?

I've read and would recommend it. It doesn't go in depth into his backstory but you do get how he's made.

There's also some side shit with the Tommy character. And there's a side story with the older guy who threw acid on his face. It's a bit darker than the film, I think.
