In one case the brain remains functioning and in the other the brain ceases functioning. Healing isn't related to brain function though, its an autonomic response. cut the skin of a braindead person and that person will heal over time. if all you've got is a carcass without a brain, so long as you keep the heart pumping and lungs breathing, and the stomach fed, the body remains 'alive' and damage will heal just like normal.

so based on that, i feel like if you vaporized wolverines brain, he'd just regenerate a new one, but as a blank slate. effectively a new person since memories and personality cant be healed back.

thats an interesting one to think about. if you cut out a fillet of wolverines forearm, that's not going to grow into a new wolverine otherwise mini wolverines would be growing every time he got shot or blown up and pieces flew off him so theres a rule there.
