I've been coming here since 2012 and have never bothered with streams because my internet has never been good enough to stream video consistently. It finally is as of last week, so when you mentioned streams again this thread I entertained the idea and asked for some guidance. You called me a faggot, dismissed me, mocked me, and now are getting tetchy and backpedalling because you're probably ashamed of what a cunt you've been.

Alright. I'm sorry. My stepbrother is gay and hates the term 'fag' and I shouldn't use it, I'm just used to it as part of 'chan culture'. I see that it still can hurt people, and I'm sorry for using it.

There is the link for finding more about the streams. I'm sorry for using the term fag, and for being hostile towards you. Please stick around :)

>the whole episode nothing happens, they're being chased by a water monster, the monster appears, they run into the tardis, fly to a new location, talk, monster appears, they run into the tardis, fly to a new location, talk, monster appears, i'm not exaggerating this is the whole episode
>even though they're being chased by a monster that takes the form of water every time the tardis lands bill sticks her face right next to a water source and gets attacked every time, no joke
>epic quips for tumblr like "why do you run like a penguin" and "it's a kitchen" (the inside of the tardis)

Episode 11: World Enough and Time

Written by Steven Moffat, directed by Rachel Talalay. Guest star: Michelle Gomez

“My name’s Doctor Who.”

"Friendship drives the Doctor into the rashest decision of his life. Trapped on a giant spaceship, caught in the event horizon of a black hole, he witnesses the death of someone he is pledged to protect. Is there any way he can redeem his mistake? Are events already out of control? For once, time is the Time Lord’s enemy..."

A Star in Her Eye is very poetic but it's actually a rather odd title since the star is actually a very superficial aspect of the story

Again, why though. I don't really get why you're so mad for that star. The apical point of the episode is Bill tempted to travel the cosmos with the girl with a star in her eye. It's fine like this, really. Also keep in mind that the episode is meant for a new audience, and Moffat always liked to write the show a bit like a fairytale.

It's got the worst script of any episode in the whole Moffat era. It was fucking painful to watch, people just barking "THIS IS THE MORAL OF THE EPISODE" at eachother non stop, no-one having an actual conversation like a human would.

Robots of Sherwood was a comfy kid-friendly episode done right. It was light hearted and fun.

Forest of the Night was verbal diarrhoea with a non existent plot. It was no way near ready to be filmed and released, you can see how strained the production was getting that that episode ever aired.

Plot holes aren't the problem with that episode. Really you just have to accept plot holes in Doctor Who, it's not a big deal. That episode is awful because it's just characters wandering around a forest set talking at each other a bit, then something vaguely mystical happens and the episode ends.

>>
>>81691303
I respect your opinion.

I'm going to respond by saying things I like about the episode, even though I hate nearly every Moffat episode ever written.

1. The Monster

I thought it was going to be piss poor based on the previews. One of them said something about "you'll never look at puddles the same way again!!!" and it sounded like such bullshit I came in expecting to eyeroll through the whole episode. Then we saw her face in the water for the first time, and I got legit spooked. I found puddle girl properly creepy and disturbing at times - there was an eeriness about the concept and the performance, but also the tone of the episode as a whole. She reminded me very much of Japanese horror icons like Kayako and Sadako, and it struck me that the Pilot was essentially a ghost story in the same vein as Dark Water or Shutter. I was genuinely affected by Heather's story - we knew so little, but for me, it seemed to say so much. Maybe I'm alone in this, but did anybody else think her transformation was a metaphor for suicide? She always wanted to "leave", she struck me as somebody haunted and

>>
>>81693470
Baiting aside, I do think figures will drop. Next week looks terrible.
>>
>>81691303
>>81693589

2. The Atmosphere

It was really weird, but I loved it. It was the first time in a long time that Moffat's Who has tapped into any emotion except smug self-congratulation, and it struck me as a really left-field choice - wistfulness, a sense of yearning and melancholy. That could have been me alone, though, and something I brought to the episode, but to me it was about a sense of absence, rather than loss - something missing from life that you'd never had. A sense of meaning, or purpose, or importance - love, acceptance, intimacy - the fact that Bill has a mother she's never known, and lost a woman she never knew, suggests this was intentional rather than accidental. Bill built her mother in her imagination. Her crush struck me as one those rare, strange moments of connection, of promise, of potential - catching a beautiful boy/ girl's eye, a smile, a look - and you -know- it means nothing, but in your head you're still imagining some ethereal romance.

3. Bill

I hear your criticisms about Bill and I think they're valid. It struck me (and concerned me) that Moffat seemed to be trying to ape RTD in this episode. Working-class companion in dead-end job wants more from life. Promiscuous, critical mother figure with a string of bad boyfriends. A monster who mimics its victims before becoming them - all finished off with a dash of Moffat's pseudo-Whedonesque glib quippery (I'm not a fan). Bill, to me, seemed sporadically inconsistent - one minute it's "lol chips i fatted her" and the next she's saying some big, poetic, wordy, lyrical speech. It's a bad habit I hope Moffat breaks. For all that, though, I liked her. Maybe that's just Mackie's performance, but she seemed to give her a vulnerability, a self-consciousness, a sense of self-doubt and lack of confidence that sold the inconsistencies - maybe she's talking plain because she's scared if she talks clever she'll get judged or called out or criticised for being wrong. Maybe she only starts owning her intelligence as her confidence grows over the year - she shares more and risks more. And Bill being an orphan (another dead/ disappearing mother from Moffat raised an eyebrow) at least seemed to be owned with some kind of emotional verisimilitude. She's never felt like she belongs, and she's looking for something, or someone, to fill the hole - as opposed to Amy Pond, who seems spectacularly unconcerned about her lack of parents, nor seems to acknowledge them past her wedding day, whereafter they've apparently expended their usefulness.

Due to unconfirmed reports, the next Doctor is Kris Marshall, best known for-

I'm sure they did this song and dance with Idris Elba some time ago.
Not that I have anything against Kris, he seems likable enough despite always going to be the clueless one from My Family in my eyes, but at least label it as a fucking rumour.

Personally I'd be up for John Simms as the Doctor.

4. The Doctor

Loved Capaldi. I appreciated spiky, edgy, callous Doctor as a necessary result of his long life and many losses - he can either be Time Lord Victorious, or somehow find a way to protect himself from the sacrifices and the pain in order to keep going and doing what he does - but I liked that we got a Doctor who seemed to have been looking for something himself, just like Heather, and Bill. He's trying to be responsible, to do the right thing, to honour his debts, and be a good man. He's someone who's created a robot butler because he's so lonely, because for once he's living with the losses and the pain, not running away or moving on, but owning them and working through it.

The dynamic between him and Nardole is fantastic. It's got a real Sancho Panza, Don Quixote feel to it that I like. Nardole's down-to-earth cynicism really marries well with the Doctor's whimsy and romanticism - if the Doctor gets lost in his ideas, in his own head, Nardole remains sensitive to the heart, and to the humanity of the moment - "He never notices the tears." It's a great way of keeping the Doctor grounded and human and real and relatable, rather than having him be a one-dimensional caricature or a messianic figure of mass worship and adoration.

In conclusion, I think Capaldi's Doctor is going to win a lot more fans in this season, and it's going to cement him as a universally beloved figure. Nardole is unironically the key.

Oh, and I think that the Doctor becoming a lecturer is inspired, as was the span of time the story encompassed.

Sorry for the TL;DR blogpost etc, I just think it's kind of remarkable I came away from the episode feeling good about it.

I don't hate him as much as you do but I don't want him
After seeing some Death in Paradise, depending on how he plays it I feel as though he'll either be a less funny 11 or a less charistmatic 10. Either way it'll just be sort of flat

It'd at least be enjoyable shitty tumblr fanfiction, so that'd be cool.
Of course, if we really wanted to go tumblr fan-fiction, we could make a character who knows the Doctor from the future, knows how to pilot the Tardis, makes Daleks quiver in their can, be able to stand up the entire third reich and then fuck the Doctor's brains out.
But that would be stupid.

I just included it because I read the original poster's comment, and could recognise the validity of his comments as someone who's shared his opinions in the past. Moffat does have the exact same problems that he described, and I'm not necessarily saying that they weren't a problem in this episode, just that it was doing enough else that I found I could forgive them far more easily than in the past.

Also, credibility doesn't really apply to opinions, unless you're suggesting I'm lying about my opinion?

I'm just recording my personal views on the episode, I'm not trying to argue my interpretation. If I was offering an argument, than yes, I'd agree, the fact that I didn't like Moffat wouldn't increase the veracity of the argument, but I'm not.
>>
There was very little in this episode that wasn't disappointing.

Nardole is the most irritating waste of time ever and detracts from every moment he appears. This is Doctor Who but he clearly thinks he's still in Little Britain. "oh Bill wants to use the toilet, but LOL I did a stinky ¤¤¤¤, me so funny" oh ¤¤¤¤ right off.

Bill is not much better. She can't do emotional well. Talking to the water thing and saying she'll miss it she sounds like shes just reading of a cue card with no emotion while the water thing copying her sounds heartfelt and heartbroken. They should've switched the two actresses.

Oh and people complain about how slow classic who can be: never had a problem with it there, but the pacing here was glacial!

You are forgetting those who were watching the show online/streamed. This is not the early 2000s anymore where you could easily get 10 million of viewers because internet speeds were usually so shit that trying to stream an episode would have taken ages. It was a worldwide trending topic on twitter and received mostly favorable reviews by the fans, which is extremely important.

I agree about the bathroom scene, but such generalised comments about series 8-9 (as if there was no use of handheld camera or bright light across 25 episodes?) are sheer nonsense, given the range of different directors and DOPs who worked on them.

>>
>>81693842
You're making a lot of assumptions based on my posts. I know I'm not a literary genius, nor is anything I write a work of literary merit. I don't even think my opinions are equivalent to some profound insight.

I just liked things about the episode, and was happy to be surprised and moved by a Moffat episode, and I thought that maybe if that anon read my views, he'd be able to enjoy the episode more too.

Which would be nice, don't you think?

Too many arguments in this general degenerate into polarised "everything you said is wrong and everything I said is right". People should accept that other people's views are (usually) equally valid before contending them. It's not about utterly disproving somebody, it's about seeing things in a different way.
