Anyone ever check their myspace account recently? I haven't looked at mine in years. I wonder if it's still even up.
>>
>>81666699
Who?
>>
>>81666603

It was cool how he automatically became your friend.

Myspace at its peak was way better than Fakebook- those customizable themes were the best.

Easy to pick up chicks too there.
>>
>>81667312

Yep- my old music page is still up. Still have 3k+ 'friends'. Zombies at this point I'm sure.
>>
This has always bothered me:

Why did facebook become so popular over myspace, which had much more customization?

Why was Zuckerjew hailed as a pioneer? Didn't myspace come first?

What did facebook, especially the earlier iterations, have that myspace didn't?

They were horrible but better than now.

>>81667868
Did you have a cute emo fringe?
>>
>>81667916
>which had much more customization?
Because every stupid girl on myspace filled their page with tens of megabytes of animated gifs, autoplaying mp3s causing the loading to chug and become unreadable. People aren't designers, much less 12 year old girls.
>>
>>81666699
Shii deserves one more imo.
>>
>>81667916

Myspace was fun and you could get creative. Fakebook is blander than bland. I don't understand it.

You would think with all the self-worship ppl do on Fakebook they would make the interface more comfy. Guess less money in it for Zuck then.

I wouldn't doubt that Zuck and his 'team' was behind the myspace buyout and then let it whither on the vine.

What is really hilarious is all the shit ppl talk about myspace. It was a freaking trailblazer- similar to 4chan where you could easily communicate and befriend ppl all over the globe. Now it's like "do I know you?"
>>
>>81667312
they nuked the entire site, you can log on but you can't access your photos or do any customization. it's like a ghost town. I think they must have lost tons of money somehow because it's nothing but shitty music ads.
>>
>>81668145

I never had a problem with the site loading slow. It didn't take up that much bandwidth- unlike now with Fakebooks auto playing videos of people's stupid kids. As a musician it was neat to see who embedded one of my songs. It added to the play counts as well. There was a feature that let you know. Made me feel good. Now I'm an anonymous old loser.
>>
>>81668137

>>
>>81668598
>I never had a problem with the site loading slow. It didn't take up that much bandwidth
It wasn't about bandwidth, it was about the site becoming unreadable with giant flashing fonts, animated backgrounds and whatever teeny bopper song was popular at the time. Don't even bother arguing, you weren't there.
Facebook fixed the mess myspace was by letting people communicate more clearly, and that's about it.
>>
>>81668737

Yes I wasn't there.I'm the guy who posted Who?
>>
>>81668737
This.

Every other faggot posting ITT was never around for Myspace in its prime. It was a fucking mess. Letting every scene chick and nigger customize their profile was a mistake.

I hate the idea of Facebook, but it allowed clear communication and a clean, streamlined experience, and that's why it succeeded
>>
>>81667916
there were facebook like sites before myspace
>>
>>81667916
How big even is Facebook anymore? Obviously still gigantic but I wonder if it's something that's even going to persist into the 2030s and beyond.

People just got lazier, Facebook is so popular because it's all about the reconnecting, updating everyday about your life, etc. I suppose they just didn't see a point in needing a layout you can edit, a playlist, flash games on your page when people just want to look at what you're up to. That and going in to the 2010's a lot of websites picked up this "sleek, minimalist design."
>>
>>81669891

Thanks for the info Zuck
>>
>>81670019
facebook has become an old person thing at this point.
>>
>>81668737
All social media sites are about one thing and one thing only. Getting da prime pussy.
Once you understand this you will understand everything.

Facebook became popular because you had to be in college to sign up at first. That limited the pussy to prime college pussy. MySpace was lost to emos and faggots while the real pussy went on facebook.

Instagram is the same now, it's where all the girls post shit of themselves. Snapchat also became popular because teens could send naked pics of themselves. All social media sites are about teen sex and "hot" girls. Wherever the pussy is, the site becomes popular.

Because Myspace was full of viruses, browser hijacks and some of the worst ads I've ever seen by the end.

Not to mention any page looked like a fucking horrible mix between a LJ and Geocities page at any given moment.

Everyone forgets now, but facebook, for years, had no ads at all. The uniformity made people understand what was on everyone pages and it was hands down, the easiest way to talk to other people and see their photos because there was no bullshit in the way of that.

MySpace dug its own grave.

>why did MySpace get replaced by Facebook when MySpace was sooo cooool

Because the average person doesn't actually enjoy HTML customization, and Facebook heavily encouraged using your real name. MySpace was a fun place to meet online acquaintances, but Facebook was related to your actual social standing. It blew up because people wanted to show their IRL friends how much of a social butterfly they were.

Looking back I haven't made internet friends in a long time

http://www.simulation-argument.com/simulation.html

This paper argues that at least one of the following propositions is true: (1) the human species is very likely to go extinct before reaching a “posthuman” stage; (2) any posthuman civilization is extremely unlikely to run a significant number of simulations of their evolutionary history (or variations thereof); (3) we are almost certainly living in a computer simulation. It follows that the belief that there is a significant chance that we will one day become posthumans who run ancestor-simulations is false, unless we are currently living in a simulation. A number of other consequences of this result are also discussed.

>>81678205

I. INTRODUCTION
Many works of science fiction as well as some forecasts by serious technologists and futurologists predict that enormous amounts of computing power will be available in the future. Let us suppose for a moment that these predictions are correct. One thing that later generations might do with their super-powerful computers is run detailed simulations of their forebears or of people like their forebears. Because their computers would be so powerful, they could run a great many such simulations. Suppose that these simulated people are conscious (as they would be if the simulations were sufficiently fine-grained and if a certain quite widely accepted position in the philosophy of mind is correct). Then it could be the case that the vast majority of minds like ours do not belong to the original race but rather to people simulated by the advanced descendants of an original race. It is then possible to argue that, if this were the case, we would be rational to think that we are likely among the simulated minds rather than among the original biological ones. Therefore, if we don’t think that we are currently living in a computer simulation, we are not entitled to believe that we will have descendants who will run lots of such simulations of their forebears. That is the basic idea. The rest of this paper will spell it out more carefully.

In around 100 years the Age of Aquarious will enter. I don't know what will happen next. I can't imagine what kind of religion/system we'll be ruling once we've entered. I wonder how the Age of Pisces will be remembered as

the 'feed' to be honest. Myspace was your profile. Then you had friends you could go to their profile and see what they were doing.

Facebook allowed you to, while staying on your own profile, check blurbs of your friends. Giving and getting little instant gratification likes.

Simple really.
