It's apparently an old draft since Lando is in it and Billy Dee Williams confirmed he's not back. But it also featured

Snoke is an aristocrat from before the Clone Wars who became obsessed with harnessing the Force to achieve immortality and power and although he controls the Dark Side he doesn't consider himself a Sith and believes that the old ways of the Dark Side and the Light are a waste of time.

Also, you have to remember the demographic has changed since A New Hope, a female lead isn't anything groundbreaking or new in 2017, if you look past what is between her legs I think she's fantastic as a lead and Finn and Poe compliment her well.

Her character definitely was not written perfectly, but I think there is a lot to like that isn't focused on.

For instance, I really like her intro scene. The shots are beautiful and communicates a lot about her life without saying much. Also, regardless of how easily she seems to get her Force powers, I really like the interrogation scene between her and Kylo.

People should criticize some of the writing behind her character and it shouldn't be hand waved, but I also think it is kind of easy to be frustrated by the small portion of the fan base that judges her particularly harshly because she is a woman. It's obvious that people like that do browse and post on /tv/ constantly.

Missed this post, wanted to get you a reply since this is a topic that greatly interests me-- these are not rooted in typical abandonment symptoms.

Will men become more aggressive when their parents are convicted of a crime? Of course-- there's a far different response in males when they parent is taken from them by death... anyhow they're going to deal with both situations radically different than a female-- or they may deal with it exactly like a female; that's the point I'm trying to make.

Look guys can you really debate that females and males are not vastly different in scope? Females are very static, and extremely predictable, true in every social class... males are not-- they're the complete opposite and their personalities and dealing with situations sway radically compared to their female counterparts, or sometimes they line up perfectly.

There could be examples where this isn't the case, it's abnormal... such is the reality it's hard to write a female character with relatable, realistic flaws unless you specifically tap into her gender for those flaws.

In the case of the new Star Wars movies, and others like it, they refuse to show these flaws because it goes against the narrative (I hate this word too, believe me) that they're trying to conduct. They've instead opted to leave her character nearly flawless because it better fits their ideals, or what they think sells better at the very least.

Woman, being naturally static and predictable creatures, ARE inferior to men for this reason, but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

This is the conclusion I came to, please challenge it as you see fit.

Her entire character was written from the overprotective mother archetype, she was strong as fuck but one would argue it's the female imperative to protect her child at all cost, in the first film she didn't even know what was going on, she just knew she had one purpose in life... and in every film a source of her conflict was her psychical weakness.

I'd argue the flaws of her character had little to do with her gender, and more with the basic human instinct to survive and ward off alien aggression. In the 2nd film she was a complete mess after what she went through, and didn't straighten up until she was forced to take on a pseudo-mother role and try to educate and protect her fellow crew-members with advantage of experience.

These are great, strong characters, but I feel they're again very much a byproduct of the feminine condition.

Of course there's a masculine condition, but it's far large in scope and much more varied in flaws and predictable outcomes.

I really hate that Lucas added the two "NOOO"s to that scene in the blu-ray. It was honestly a masterclass in perfectly ending two completely different character arcs almost simultaneously, just like the ending of ANH being a perfect ending in general with the pay off of Luke using the Force, Han and Chewie returning in the Falcon, and the destruction of the Death Star seconds before it could blow up Yavin IV all in less than a minute. There are a lot of issues with his special edition changes but the worst ones are where scenes that were already perfect are now tarnished. It just reminds you of the end of ROTS and how comical Vader saying NOOOOOOO was.
