Is there any movie about true loneliness? The kind that makes you deranged?

Taxi Driver is literally the only movie I've seen able to capture it so accurately. And don't give me that Lost in Translation or Eternal Sunshine normie bullshit.

No it is not. Normies think they understand it, but they don't. It's an esoteric movie.

Not really. The Master is more about aimlessness.

It's not simply about loneliness, the protagonist was already mentally unstable to begin with.

Right now, i consider Taxi Driver to be THE movie that describes the current generation in it's most accurate and brutal details.
The part of this generation that sees themselves as "intellectuals" but are just limited, shut in autistic robots quickly descending into utter madness.

It's a wonderful movie, it's one of the best movies i've ever seen, and right now it's one of the most relevant movies ever, i don't think a lot of people understand this yet, but maybe looking back, years from now, they'll see the link.

For an Elliot Rodger biopic to work you have to shoot it like an 80's coming of age movie, complete with the pop soundtrack. First half is all about him trying and failing to get laid, then the second is him giving up humanity and plotting his revenge. Take on me should play during the actual shooting.

He didn't.
He just wanted to make a movie about a specific kind of person, it just so happens that this generation that kind of person has become incredibly common and imageboards are where these type of people naturally tend to congregate towards, as they get isolated and rejected everywhere else.

I could talk about Travis for hours, it's a fascinating character, and when you meet so many people that are exactly like him you understand him, and the movie, so much more.

The point of the movie isn't to glorify Travis, nor to paint him as a villain (a lot of people might disagree with that point, but i stand by it, i don't think we're meant to think he's a bad guy and that's it).
The point is that he's a completely broken man in every way, there's something inherently wrong with him, with his brain, how he thinks, him as a human being.
He can never be fixed, he tries so fucking hard to keep his life "orderly", to find purpose, to improve himself, to improve the situation of his "habitat", the world he sees around him as corrupt and degenerate.
But he's the biggest corruption of them all, he's completely broken inside in every way, anything he tries goes badly, anything he touches turns to shit, he will NEVER be able to live a happy life because he should've never been born in the first place.
He exclusively exists to cause harm to those around him and be miserable, regardless of what he tries.
He's essentially a sick puppy that has no hope of ever functioning propely and should've just have been put down a long time ago.

Not because he's evil, but because he's just not meant for the world.
There's so many people like Travis out there, right now.
People that try incredibly hard to function and live every day, and they just can't, no matter what they try.

Solid idea.
But right now he's 100% focused on working with Atticus Ross so it would be too much on the arranged ambient side, you'd have to talk to Ross and specify the intent with him a bit more clearly.

It was helpful that Gwen was nerdy too, but they still became a couple too quickly.

but fuck MCU Spider-Man.
I was so excited, Tom Holland is great, but they turned Peter into Miles.
I wanted Peter Parker, the borderline school shooter, the underdog.

Looking at any promotional material for Homecoming makes me rage autistically, Spider-Man has been my favorite since I was a kid and I just want one accurate movie.

MCU Peter isn't accurate at all, he acted like a fanboy during the entirety of Civil War and the "really old movie, The Empire Strikes Back" line was OOC, even though comic Peter doesn't like Star Wars.
Marvel Studios talked about Spider-Man like he was gonna be really integral to the movie, but when they got the rights to him they just used him to fill a generic "inexperienced rookie" role, and that's not his character.

Spider-Man is really sarcastic and playful, the quintessential and perhaps original quipping superhero.
I'm sure the reason why all the characters quip in the MCU is because Spider-Man was Marvel's most popular character and they didn't have the rights, so they turned every character into Spider-Man.

Peter Parker is usually considered the everyman, but he's actually an underdog.
A reoccurring part of Spider-Man comics is "Parker Luck", whenever something good happens to him, something worse usually happens.
Original teen Peter had no friends at all, and he didn't really get bullied, him getting bullied is sort of a retcon.
If you look at the original Spider-Man comic a normal exchange is Betty and Flash inviting Peter out, Peter says he's busy, Flash calls Peter's a "nerd", and Peter goes into a fit of rage.
There was one issue where Peter almost left Flash to die, or get seriously injured.

I understand not going with that version of Peter Parker since it's pretty extreme, but since we're getting high school Pete I wanted to see nerdy nervous Peter Parker, the Peter who didn't have any friends.
And I wanted to see a Spider-Man that's actually funny, not an inexperienced rookie, Peter should be boasting with confidence with the mask on, not mumbling and speaking casually.

Marvel Studios turned Peter Parker into Miles Morales, the boring black/Latino Spider-Man that had friends from the start, including a fat Asian best friend. The main conflict for Spider-Man homecoming is even directly taken from the first few Miles comics.

No.
Eraserhead is a bit about solitude but it's not the main theme of the movie.
Eraserhead is about the horrible void forming inside your skull every time you're awake at 5 am staring at the ceiling, and on the corner of your eyes you swear the shadow inside your room just outside your cone of vision is growing and pulsating.

I'm making it sound like it's an horror movie, but that's not what i'm trying to say.
It's basically about bein uncomfortable with everything.
You start to feel your sheets on your body, then your clothes, then your skin, your muscles, you become aware of the bones inside you, you start breathing manually, you think about every single time you spilled spaghetti when you were younger during important times in your life, you reflect on your job, or lack thereof, your family, your friends if you have any, every single human interaction you've ever had in your life, etc.

It's a deep dive into everything that doesn't allow you to feel well.
There's themes of solitude, and there's also theme of the fear of starting a mantaining a family, relationship problems and all that, but it's more or less everything that makes you ill, all at once, simultaneously.
You aren't meant to be scared, you're meant to feel sick, somewhere where you don't want to be mentally.

It's layers upon layers of Lynch personal history and problems during his life, and then your own, they add upon each other until you have this giant smelly lasagna made of shit and mud.

I've seen people here before talk about that scene and cite it as an example of Travis being racist. I don't get it. He doesn't seem racist at all. He just seems indifferent to everyone regardless.

The Man Who Sleeps.

Watch it.
>>
>>81634724
I think the racism element is existent in the scenes in and outside the diners where he stares down the pimps and the black guy walking outside before he talks to Wizard. I never read it into the TV scene, but it might be there.
>>
>>81634724
I think the racism is unclear, though it is suggested. That said, the idea that he's indifferent to everyone is preposterous. He is very obviously bitter, resentful, and angry; this scene is antithetical to indifference. Perhaps you can't read facial expressions, but the fact that he's watching it should say enough.
>>
>>81633340
>>81634724
>>81634909
Travis is not a racist.
If you think Travis is racist, you'r essentially projecting yourself and your limitations and/or assumptions onto him.

Travis is a broken man that desperately seeks order.
See it as sort of an extreme case of OCD.
He wants order inside himself and around himself, at all costs, he despises elements of chaos that disrupt his order, that's all it is.

The Coca Cola product placement throughout this film drove me fucking crazy. Good thing it does hold up to the praise or else it would have been too much for me. Seriously, it seemed like every 15 there was a scene with three or four cokes with their labels facing the camera in really unnatural placement.

I watched it for the first time like last month. Glad I finally did regardless.

He's just too professional at his work, knowing acquaintances and luxuries would only hinder his performance.
He had a code and lived for it. So faithful to it that his performance went spiralling down after the pianist lied in his favor to the police. Once they put a price on her, he realized he would rather die on the line of work than killing someone he owns to/got attached to and going on with his life.
A samurai was a man that built his whole life around his trade. Honor, discipline and decisiveness while gripping the sword were his everything. The same goes for Costello as a hitman.

I enjoyed Taxi Driver tremendously, I'm of the same opinion as you, and the movie Oh Boy! (German, black-n-white but modern) is the one I also found relatable. The Man Who Sleeps gets mentioned, but I found it to be quite shit and overrated trash.

Other than that, I highly doubt there's something that could compare with Taxi Driver in that regard and sense.

>The point is that he's a completely broken man in every way, there's something inherently wrong with him, with his brain, how he thinks, him as a human being.

No, he's just tired of the filth of humanity that he sees in New York every day as a taxi cab driver.

I mean, Scorsese is in the movie himself, gets in his cab, talks about how he wants to shoot some chick that is cheating on him.

He takes the lady to a porno movie because it's been so long he's been with a classy lady, that he doesn't understand she's higher class than the whores and skanks he sees every day.
>>
I can only think of movies where either the characters had something and then they lost it, boo-hoo, or they were already on the road to depression, so the films are mostly about the descend/transformation and their experiences while being lonely and alienated.

So, here it goes. Le feu follet (the novel is better though), Umberto D, Kumiko the Treasure Hunter, About Schmidt, Tony Takitani, Moon, Shame, The Machinist, Solaris.

If you're looking for a film like Taxi Driver that depicts a worst case scenario f the effects of loneliness and depression , you might like this. It's also set in the gritty pre-Guliani New York and features amazing special effects from Tom Savini.

Maybe it's because you're a salty NEET that you don't realise but it's a fucking horrible situation to be in. Having everything you need yet still stuck in depression. If you're depressed because you've got nothing then you can strive gain whatever you're lacking and better yourself, but if you've already got all that then you're pretty fucked. Dead in the water without an oar.

I'm not going to argue that Taxi Driver isn't about loneliness, but people on here are confusing lonely with alone.

They're different.

nah this movie is about the 1000's people who never make it who we never hear about, we only hear about the successes, the dylans

I think it's more that it's better to be either one rather than both at the same time.

This is still the most interesting scene in the film to me. When Travis starts talking about her colleague so negatively and says those ridiculous lines about him having the right to talk to her I can't help but wonder if she'd have actually responded the way she did and not being put off. Are we supposed to believe Travis is just good enough looking for it to not matter or would women actually find this endearing? Only time I've hit on a girl this directly were times I was too drunk to care, so this is entirely foreign territory.

True.
Actual non normie movies about Isolation are:
Le Samourai
Un Homme Qui Dort
...i dont know more examples to be honest, a lot of movies touch on that but I wouldn't say theyre necessarily about loneliness
>>
>>81645701
No. Just no. Fassbender is in this Movie a successful Womanizer with friends who go out with him every weekend. It's a great movie, but only because the character has a porn addiction and is a man of few words doesn't make this movie a movie about loneliness and I guy that good looking with women THROWING THEMSELVES ON HIM are not lonely in any term. Travis is lonely, but Brandon isn't.

I can't get over this scene either. He's lonely to the point of being deranged but he has the balls to be this upfront about asking girls out.

He's right

Women have life on easy mode. If a girl says she's "depwessed" "lonely" or "misunderstood" take what she's feeling and multiply it by .001.

Youre a pleb, Oh Boy is shit, it's just German so you think it's pseudo obscure but over here nobody considers it decent, it's pretentious as fuck
>>
>>81666026
I always thought his loneliness pushed him to the point of working up the balls to walk in and ask her out

You can tell he had to work up the courage to, since he drove by her window multiple times before doing so

>all life boils down to is being able to get laid
You fucking r9k/pol expatriates.

You know, there are a lot of women who have legit problems and while I dont doubt that men in general have it harder in most situations, I also dont doubt that there are women truly suffering

Speak of myself: I was born.
My dad never had friends and it just happens that he met my Mom. They never taught me how to socialize well, so I ended up like my Dad, but even worse, because a child growing up while the Internet is booming among Normies and are not capable to hold a normal irl conversation... I was bullied, felt like shit and now I'm 24 and had never success or real friends in life. I live still at home because I think "It's the fault of you guys that I'm a loser, so at least take care of your failure".

No one said that except you you fucking faggot.

>>81666547
No, youre just constantly implying it. Its always about women being able to fuck whenever they like. You dont even realise how pathetic you sound.

It's not just sex

>easier to get employed
>easier to get into college
>easier to get welfare
>get attention constantly
>easier to make friends

And before you say
>"b-but that's just attractive women"

It applies to all women. All a female has to do is not be fat and wear makeup. Most can't even do that right
>>
>>81665754
It's also the only scene where he is framed with another character on screen, while not looking at them through the rear view mirror in his taxi

Really makes you think
>>
>>81665754

She is kind of intrigued and interested. Also because normally noone has the guts to ask her out. This completely fades when going to the movies though.

There's not a single film out there that comes close to Taxi Driver. I see I Stand Alone mentioned a few times in this thread, but frankly, that recommendation is absolute dogshit.

Calvary, though, I think deserves a mention.
