>the girl eventually dates some other guy instead of the protagonist
>the end of the relationship coincides with artistic / financial success for the male protagonist, and marital / domestic success for the female
>both have strong nostalgic music and imagery throughout
>both deal with expectation versus reality
>both have elaborate dream sequences
>both use the seasons to structure the narrative of the film

Emma's whole selling point as an actress is that she's pretty enough for lead roles but not also has a grounded charisma that isn't threatening to 'modern' men and women.
Zoe is literally perfection in 500 Days of Summer, although her 'quirky' girl appeal really doesn't work outside of stories where this aspect of her personality isn't challenged to some degree.

Um, c'mon sweetie. Be better.
OP the movie Umbrellas of Cherbourg also was thematically divided by seasons and it was a musical (or an opera depending on how you see it)
