Was Doc Brown an abusive father?

Some films are loved and hated in equal measure. But I've yet to find anyone who doesn't like BTTF.

The sequels are shit though. They were the first example I can think of where the original film was followed up with a 2-part story in a desperate attempt to make a trilogy. Also see The Matrix.
