the movie list looks good. the same sort of schlock they've always riffed on

when does it become available on Netflix? Midnight tonight?
>>
>>81597414
Midnight Pacific, in all time zones.
Only English-speaking countries are getting it, because movie rights are a bitch to negotiate. Hence lots of episodes never getting released on DVD/going out of print/getting pulled from the rotation back when the show was still on cable.
>>
>>81597414
The Land That Time Forgot is actually a decent movie, I enjoyed watching it when I was a kid.

Haven't seen anything about it yet. I hope they stick with the original formula and don't do too much with the secondary characters. Also I hope we don't get cringy nerd humor. The addition of Felicia Day and Patton Oswalt are making me pretty afraid about the whole project. Has Jonah Ray ever done anything worth mentioning?
>>
>>81596945

The jokes and general humor of the first show was pretty garbage so I probably won't bother.

Think he's talking about the original run of the show. As a kickstarter backer I've watched like 5 episodes. Its decent but there are definitely some issues that need ironing out. Its not offensively bad and might be the most consistently decent the show has been though.

Yo it's out for Kickstarter backers, so you can pirate it. I just watched the first one, and guys, it's fucking great. Top-tier riffs. Pretty good host segments.

If there's anything I don't like, it's the new SOL backdrop during the host segments and Servo's new VO. Both of those things could plausibly grow on me over time.
>>
>>81598390
I actually had difficulty telling if it was Jonah or Servo riffing at times during the first episode.

Howard Yount's Crow is fucking perfect though
>>

Oswalt and Day are my only major concerns. I really can't stand either of them.

The rest of the cast is fine. The movies range from meh to good.

The new guy is good. Crow is okay. Servo tries way to hard to be noticed.

Day is horrible in every scene. Laying it on way too thick.

Oswalt is tolerable.

The first episode was terrible. Tom Servo's voice actor is dogshit, Crow's is merely passable, the new guy is some nu-male cuck, and with their massive budget, they've missed the point of the show.

MST3K isn't about a bunch of elaborate props, and impressive shots. It was made by some ordinary bored guys who decided to make a couple little props and make fun of shitty movies in their basement. They made a show about watching shitty movies with your friends while drunk and put it on a public network, then it just happened to be fucking hilarious. They didn't have a massive budget, they were just some creative and funny people making a funny show.

But now the new show has this massive Kickstarter budget, new actors who try way too hard, and shitty riffs. I never laughed once throughout the Reptilicus episode.

The riffs are pretty good. Sometimes theybare a bit too try hard or "modern", and I wish they'd give them more time to breathe. Still, generally good riffs means good MST3K. The host segments are unsurprisingly worse, but they were never good anyway. One thing that I'm having trouble getting used to is the increase in singing

>>
>>81605886
I don't mind the more modern references. Old MST3K did then modern references too.

I definitely agree that they should give a little breathing room to the jokes. They fire them a little too fast sometimes.

Host segments feel par for the course so far, but I was never a big fan of them either so that's not really praise. Honestly though, I liked the monster song. That was fun.

Tom Servo's voice just keeps tripping me up.
>>
Did they explain how Tom and Crow got back onto the ship?
>>
>>81606148
nope
>>
Good so far, but sometimes you need to put a BIT of a gap between jokes. They just overload it at times. Otherwise, incredibly true to the old formula.

>>
>>81606190
>/tv/'s thoughts on Kinga and TV's Max?

Consistently the worst part of an otherwise enjoyable experience.
>>
>>81606188
Im guessing the original Tom and Crow are stll with Mike, the original gypsy is still running her company, and these are replicas
>>
>>81606102
The modern references are there but they pepper just enough old stuff that it doesn't feel ham handed.
>>
>>81606087
Did that reference in I Accuse My Parents, sorry dude.
>>
>>81606102
You're right, but some still struck me the wrong way. The big one that stuck out was the whole "the bones have a twotter feed" thing.

I also thing some of the jokes are too involved. There are times when they'll barely finish getting a riff of in the time it takes for the movie to cut two or three times. And there aren't as many subdued jokes, which is a shame. Like the ones where the guys make a hushed observation about the movie

Yeah, voices are a mixed bad. Crow's is fine, Tom's is off and doesn't suit his character, and Gypsy's change was totally unnecessary.
>>
>>81606278
>Jonah and Tom are difficult as heck to tell apart but it's the only technical gripe I have thus far.
>>
>>81605942
My digits disagree.
>>
>>81606086

I think it's the voices, Tom doesn't sound right, Jonah sounds too enthusiastic compared to Joel and Mike's tired and relaxed demeanors, Crow sounds fine.

>>81605990

I think they wanted to be more diverse, rather than have a female robot, they wanted a robot voiced by a woman. She's not doing a voice though, she's just talking, at least Tom's guy is trying to the voice.
>>
>>81606422
I kinda feel like most of us don't like Tom's voice because it's so different. Myself included.

I can't help but think that's a bit unfair. He doesn't do a bad job, it's just that Crow is keeping it so familiar that the juxtaposition of Tom Servo's vastly different voice is a bit jarring.

With time, I think I could get used to it. But for now, it's off-putting.
>>
>>81606548

He's too high pitched compared to his original voice, when Tom's talking he sounds like Smarmy Jonah and when he's doing a riff as a character in the movie he sounds like Crow. It's a bad Tom Servo impression that sounds too much like Jonah and Crow.
>>

Just watched the first episode -

The good:
-Jonah is not bad
-Crow sounds close enough
-Some amusing laughs

The Bad:
-ADD levels of jokes being thrown at you. Holy shit, they need to calm the fuck down. A lot of them are bad.
-Host Segments are worse than ever
-So much fucking singing
-Tom Servo's voice is such hot garbage He sounds just like Jonah, and all his 'impressions' sound god awful. If it wasn't for the subtitles saying who is talking, I would have never guessed he was speaking at all.
>>
Honestly it's a small thing but I'm most upset that Servo can fly and Jonah doesn't carry him into the theater.
