So there's really a whole convention celebrating the dullest franchise in history?

Seriously each episode following the Skywalkers and their allies as they fight a series of Sith Lords, has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the gloomy imagery, the series’ only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of special effects for anything but spectacle.

Perhaps the die was cast when Lucas decided to make the Phantom Menace: he made sure the series would never slowly fade like the embarassing mistake it was, instead dragging it back into the spotlight. And what was it? just ridiculously profitable sell-out garbage made to increase action figure sales. The Star Wars series refuses to be anything beyond a simple, childish story. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.

The writing is dreadful; the book was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time there was an opportunity for character development, the plot immediately devolved into a laser rifle shootout.

I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Lucas' mind is so governed by cliches and pointless battles that he has no other tricks up his sleeve. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Star Wars by Jess Whedon. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are watching Star Wars at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to watch Firefly." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you watch"Star Wars" you are, in fact, trained to watch Firefly.

I've reached the point in my life that i'd rather see Hayden and Ewan on stage more than the OT cast because at least they are more removed from the Disney side of star wars now

What i'm most hyped for in TLJ is proper lightsaber duels.

The technology is here so it won't be as ugly as the original trilogy
They didn't do spins and shit in TFA so it won't be as bad as in the prequels
Kylo and Rey will probably enjoy a huge powerboost so it won't be as clumsy as in TFA

They'll probably fuck it up just to humiliate Kylo even more but i'm hoping for the best.
