I don't agree that people should be forced to tolerate the antics of autists. Especially not children. They are at a time in their life when they need to be learning how to act as function human beings in society, so being around screeching autistic children will teach them nothing. They're too young to understand why the autists are different, and they're too cruel to care even if they did. Whether to mock or to imitate, they will likely be influenced by the autistic children. If the autists have to be brought into this world, they deserve their own space with trained professionals to look after them when they're not at home.

I teach 4th grade math/science and deal with autistic kids. my home room is the inclusion class, which means emotionally disturbed,aspergers,autism, etc are exclusively mine.

The big problem with these kids is that they are overprotected and too often given a pass. We then have additional behavioral and social problems develop because they use their disorder as get out of jail free card.

My mother worked in elementary school education back before she retired and she said the autistic kids were the least of her problems because they crave structure. She also got a lot of the psychological problems students because she had been there for like 40 years.

She said the worst were the actually mentally disturbed kids who would sometimes do shit like throw scissors or throw a chair. Since she worked for 40 years I actually was in elementary school while she was teaching AND at the same district, but obviously district policy is that parents don't teach their children. Instead I got my mother's mentor who retired just a few years later by the time I was in fifth or sixth grade. It was an extremely preppy district, top scores in the state, when I was in high school they had to put in a second trophy hall and I'm sure they're on a third by now.

I'm guessing they got a fuckton of special needs kids because those kinds of parents would move to an area with exceptional scores in hopes that with better teachers their kids wouldn't fall behind. I can't blame them, I'd probably do the same if my kids had behavioral problems.

In 1984 I went to go see the movie "Follow That Bird", which was a Sesame Street feature film production based around Big Bird. I don't remember a damn thing about that movie, because some joker thought it would be a good idea to run the trailer for Godzilla 1985 before it. A trailer for a move depicting a giant monster destroying a city, with spotlights, roars, and guns blasting, right before a matinee showing of a pre-schooler movie.
