Personally, I thought the ending to the movie was retarded, with the way the army rolls in conveniently a minute or two after he kills everybody. Stephen King is not an amazing writer.
He is basically to books what marvel is to movies.
But while its consumer friendly entry level trash, its also very entertaining with some great ideas that suck you into the story and make you want to keep reading.
So why in the hell cant people recreate his trash into decent TV trash?
Aside from some exceptions, shawshank, green mile, the Shining, etc, every modern King adaption has been complete fucking trash.

Yep. A town near a military base is engulfed in a really thick fog the morning after an enormous storm.

Turns out the military were experimenting with looking into other dimensions. Only instead of just looking one dimension spilled into ours, a dimension filled entirely with enormous predatory monsters.

People band together to survive but some of them go crazy and man becomes monster etc. It's just a short story, but to remake it without the monsters is fucking pointless. Just another excuse for cheap human drama TV with a big name stuck on it. This will tank in one season, guarantee it.
