Casino is so fucking overrated for what it is. Three hours of narration over the top of Scorsese's favorite rock songs with a scant few actual scenes spliced in, half of which are just Sharon Stone being a cunt or Pesci doing the exact same shit as in Goodfellas. At least De Niro's suits are great.

It's a more glaring issue in a period piece like Gangs of New York, where American slang is unsuccessfully merged with rabid profanity. There's a bipolar dialect at work there.

Eastern Europe has a tradition of books like Gogol's 'The Government Inspector', but the same perspective on film is alienating to a Western outlook. In Dickens and Mark Twain, a very different outlook is presented.
