This. Easily the best.
Lost Weekend is also good but I feel it's aged pretty poorly. I haven't seen it in years so perhaps my opinion will change the next time I watch it.

Sunny does drunkenness so well.
Also OP's is pretty great too. One of the few movies that really shows how ugly and stupid alcoholism is. Most other stories go out of their way to show that the MC's are also somehow exceptional and it ends up feeling like they pull the punches in the wrong places so you don't really feel too letdown watching the protags wreck themselves. In Smashed though, you get to see the fucking retarded stuff alcoholism can lead you into, like pissing in public or waking up in the fucking gutter, and the way it's played is so straight-faced you actually feel disgusted instead of like it's just something to laugh at since in the back of your mind you're not telling yourself, "well at least nick cage or mickey rooney will still be remembered as a great writer."
