After the first episode the show went downhill. I haven't read the book, but they way they casted and wrote Hannah's character really made no sense and didn't give a very compelling reason leading up to her suicide. Some things were blatantly her fault and not anybody else's. I'm not against characters being flawed or causing their own issues, but it's pretentious when the premise is she made tapes to record how everyone else was fucked when the reality is had she handled some things differently there would have been solutions.

Not to mention they could have casted someone who actually would have been bullied ie. Not someone 10/10 attractive whose only flaw is being too naive.

I just watched the first half of the first episode. What I always wondered when watching teenage shit is: Is adolescence in the States really that bad? It's literally in every movie about it I ever saw. Awkward conversations, weird uncomfortable looking house parties, passive aggressive allusions, over-the-top peer groups and social hierarchy etc. It feels almost painful to watch it, it looks like torture. My own teenage years were shit, but not even close to this level of constant discomfort.

I thought it wouldn't affect me in any way but after some 5-6 episodes Clay started to act really beta near Hannah, remembering me so much of how I used to act near my crush in high school, and that kind of shit always makes me very uncomfy. Some of my friends started to say I looked like him and that made me even more uncomfy. Can't believe I let this kind of thing affect me.
