I listened to that podcast and you're right, I don't think he ever gave a reason. I suspect it's because the Bible uses a large collection of character archetypes and does so in a much more coherent manner, as opposed to ancient nordic/egyptian/middle-eastern religious fables. I've seen him say loads of times that Jesus is just like any other religious deity, except he was amplified to being "the perfect man" i.e. the perfect example of what a man (who is true to himself and to "God") could be. An example to emulate so that one is not lost in "Hell" (chaos) And due to it being the most well-known (proven by the fact that Jesus literally splits time) he probably uses it to better simplify his theories.
