So why was the world the way it was? Why are gangs running the streets of England? More importantly, what the fuck do you call the "vibe" this movie gave off?
I read the book once but can't remember shit from it.
Because either the important people don't care because where they live is safe, or the gangs are allowed to exist to justify a strong police/government presence.
Well, you know, rampant poverty, a corrupt government that's becoming increasingly totalitarian, a violent but incompetent police force... of course that would lead to a rise in gang crime.
The "vibe"? Dystopia, I guess.

So essentially the class divide got so big that nobody gave a fuck about the poorfags anymore?

I mean the vibe like, ah fuck I hate this word, but aesthetic.
Like the architecture, the way he and everyone dresses in the record scene, the way the milk bar looks.
There has to be a word for it.

A kind of 70s futurism, I guess. It's not common enough to have a catchy term ending with -punk attached to it.
To be honest I always thought it had some things in common with the 60s Batman show, there's definately an element of farce to it.

Thanks friend

where was rampant poverty? where was any poverty? Alex and his family? None to be seen in the film.

If I recall correctly, there's a scene of him walking alone in a very large open area and nobody is there, just a Fuck ton of trash.
That could indicate poverty.

I think the artwork would just fall under "modern art." Like the milk bar and the enormous penis sculpture.
I feel like there's a better descriptor but I'm not sure. I constantly regret that I don't know enough about architecture and art to properly label it.

Like if you know the show Legion, the main character's sister gives off the same vibe.
I don't know I've always wanted to see more movies with this aesthetic.
