No, this movie isn't as bad as people make it out to be. I just finished watching, having not seen it for a while, and it gets shit on because of obsessive comic book nerds who are soo fucking insecure about their hobby that they start frothing at the mouth when someone doesn't take this shit seriously.
I remember hating it when I saw it back in 1997 but you have to remember that Schumacher was trying to make a bright and colorful comic book movie for kids, not angst ridden emo fucktards and I was admittedly one of those people during my wasted youth.
Visually this movie looks great with fucking fantastic, color saturated photography which is a revelation compared to the fucking terrible de-saturated, over color graded shaky cam shit that passes for cinematography these days. My only real complaints are the occasionally shit costume designs (Mr. Freeze and Poison Ivy) and the Batmobile which looks like a rolling disco ball.
I think Schumacher's real mistake was that he didn't go full Rocky Horror and throw in dutch angles and Creepshow style comic book framing devices. Watching it again, I kinda wish that they'd make a Batman TV show with those sort of aesthetics and get away from the oh-so-worthy grim darkness bullshit. Leave that shit for that autismo Snyder and the big screen DCU while their TV counterparts are killing it because they embrace the comics and make bright, colorful shows that are fun to watch. So give us a Batman show like that because the Lego Batman movie proved that we can have many iterations of the Caped Crusader for all audiences!!!FACT!!! https://youtu.be/FCS_kif7qfk

Robin and Batgirl were shit and no fun to watch. Clooneybat at least seemed to know what kind of movie he was in. Arnie seemed like he was having a blast and is extremely fun to watch. Honestly don't remember much of Ivy but she looks like shit.
Agree that it's not as bad as its rep though.

It does feel like it's on the same level as Return of the Killer Tomatoes, a movie that I dearly love. I wish they went full on meta with B&R!!!FACT!!!

Even worse, I always found Alicia Silverstone super hot as a kid. If I could have jacked it at that age, I would've.

Too bad Schumacher didn't do another one. Imagine he did Batman V with, say, Scarecrow and Killer Croc? Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne, Heather Graham as Batgirl and Crispin Glover as Scarecrow. Set it during Halloween and go full on PG-13 Horrorshow style. Could have been neat!!!FACT!!!
