>All wanted to be filmmakers
>Got stuck being film reviewers

Even when they try to make a movie it always comes out as garbage, you'll think people who criticize movies as a career would be good at making them
>>
yeah who'd have thought it's easier to find a flaw in another's work than to do it yourself

when the works in question have multi-million dollar budgets

Uh, dunno who the others are, but, Doug Walker has directed multiple, complicated, feature films.

You don't see them reviewing Citizen Kane

>>
>>81449120
Sure he has.
>>
>>81449355
Exactly. These guys review shit and act like they're fucking geniuses because they can find the flaws in movies made for children and teens, when they're in their 30s making poop jokes.
The most challenging films these fucks will even approach is some Oscar-nominated stuff like Boyhood which they will meme at instead of really dissecting. Ywn see RLM tackle Kieslowski or even Haneke.

Do you have any proof that YourMovieSucksDOTorg wanted to be a filmmaker? As far as I know, he didn't study film or try to get into the film industry.

RLM's failures come from budgetary restraints.

Doug Walker is simply a talentless hack who should still be working at radioshack.

I know radioshack went out of business, he should be a property manager for one of their abandoned buildings. Away from people he might try and tell jokes to.

>>
>>81450166
>RLM's failures come from budgetary restraints.
RLM's failure comes because they are the living embodiment of the smug, detached Gen-X ethos.

I'd venture to guess none of them has felt a single sincere conviction about anything since childhood. They exist as polyps upon the colon of culture, satiating themselves on the perceived failures of others (i.e. "The Man") while adding nothing new to the discourse aside from ironic complaint.

They're a group of insecure, lost, rapidly aging burnouts who silently believe they could do a better job of making films than the professionals in the industry. Yet they lack the ambition and ability to actually enter the very industry they're obsessed with. They choose instead to fuck around and make student film piss-takes well into middle age.

They are awful, awful people. I've met thousands just like them, and the last thing we need is for these people to gain any attention for their navel gazing.

Please, /tv/, do not aspire to become anything like these people. Theirs is a lonely road leading to depression and a life devoid of real purpose.

I hope they disappear and their disaffected followers stop subsidizing their lifestyle. Perhaps that would force them to do something productive with themselves.

Not really. If anything it would make them less likely to be good because they build themselves some weird safety net of delusion thinking their film won't be shit because they know all the mistakes to avoid. Also most of them don't even provide any insightful criticism it's usually just nitpicking which anyone can do.

My "review" of Reddit Letter Media

>posting in a friend simulator thread
>idolizing an aging group of youtube vloggers from Milwaukee
>he gives his real-life "friends" money every month

Rich
>an unemployed construction worker, the trick monkey fraud of the group. knows two tricks: forced laughter and becoming violent. brava, rich! brava!

Jack
>a failed viral marketer with an ugly wife and children with terrible names ('myson packard?'). he knows he's the least popular cast member and desperately tries to fit in by making fun of reddit on stream

Mike
>an over-the-hill "director" weighed down by his talentless friends. only makes "ironically bad" videos because they're immune to criticism. his latest production 'Space Cop' hasl exposed him as a fraud and proved a spiritual and economic disaster. he will eventually go the route of orson welles, balloon up to 500 pounds and die at the ripe age of 50.

Jesse
>the curdling definition of a parasite. ditters on her phone while the men do all the hard work. got caught buying jewelry with actual Patreon money.

Jay
>the only cast member showing any self-improvement or growth. still has a long way to go, but has already outgrown RLM.

I like how Reddit Letter Media is a company founded upon criticism, insulting and berating others and their works, but HEAVEN FORBID that anyone criticize them! They'll even ban you from their stream if they catch a whiff of dissatisfaction. It's amazing how creatively lazy the group has become. They were better when they were a starving group. Now they can sit on their fat asses, drink beer and make fart jokes while you throw money at the screen. Amazing.

They making a living doing what they love which funds their ambition to independently make feature length films. "Living the dream" may not be the right term but they seem to be doing want they want to do and making money doing it.

I think your assumptions about them is based on the false belief that every filmmaker wants to work in Hollywood, when in reality most do not and it would be clear from any of their videos (particularly the Jack and Jill review) that the two are disenchanted with Hollywood and the studio system entirely.

So this is either a troll or heavy projecting.

But, Space Cop was good. It was everything /tv/ was hoping it would be. Remember how we loved it, and how there was that anon that on /tv/ that would kill every livestream /tv/ tried to have of it.
>>
I'm a neighbor of James. I live a few doors down. We used to have an inside joke in our street that we could always tell when James was editing his films because he would always play heavy metal music at deafening volumes, all the while he was drinking straight spirits heavily. Most editing sessions would last long into the night, where James would consume multiple bottles of rum, whisky and vodka. Too many times I can remember being kept up until the early hours of the morning, only to be disturbed by James in the street either screaming hysterically or fighting with his wife. His wife is an angel. She puts up with so much shit just so James can follow "his dream", or "his dragon" as he calls it during his drunken rants.

You know, out of all of these guys, I think YMS is the closest to an actual critic and he has introduced me to a lot of excellent movies that I otherwise would never have heard of.

Rolfe is just an entertainer, and not a terrible one. I'm glad he matured beyond his AVGN persona.
Walker is a greedy hack who only appeals to autists and 12 year olds.
And RLM are just one-trick ponies who haven't made anything relevant since their Episode 3 review. Now they're just a slightly more intelligent version of JeremyJahns.

James Rofle is easily the best out of all of them. He's had a love of movies since he was like 5, and he's been making movies ever since, whether it be AVGN or over-the-top movie reviews. He says he counts AVGN episodes as mini movies, because a shit ton of editing and production goes into them that a lot of people don't know about. He puts the most effort into his work.

>>
>>81457862
I love how there are people on here that are so autistic that they have to question why this looks bad, as if the terrible fucking acting isn't a dead give away. Not only are they so retarded as to not get that it's done for effect (a joke), but when you tell them that, they restate the obvious (it still looks like shit ree!!) as if to make themselves look less stupid. No shit. That is the point.

There are two types of people in this world: creators, consumers, /tv/ posters, reddit, viral marketers, critics, DCEU fans, women, the jews, and creators. And /tv/ isn't any of them.

The failure of the RLM occurs because it is an active embodiment of a problematic isolated Gen-X Est.

I guess I guess that no one has faithful beliefs about something since childhood. They exist as polyps in the colon of culture and are tired from unfamiliar failures of others (ie "The Man"). I will not add anything other than Irony's complaints.

I quietly believe that they are a quiet and lost rapid era group and that they can make better films than industry experts. However, they lack ambition and the ability to actually enter the industry they are obsessed with. They will join on behalf of them and choose to make student movies nice in middle age.

They are terrible, terrible people. I met thousands of people like them. The last thing we need is to arouse attention for these people to see their navel.

/ Tv /, please worry about becoming these people. Their lonely path leads to depression, a life without true purpose.

I hope that believers who disappear and harass will cease helping their way of life. Perhaps they will be forced to do something productive on their own.

There's been tons of directors who started on a potato budget. Sure the expectations of the average movie are higher today when you need cameras in the price range of tens of thousands of dollars to make something watchable, but budget shouldn't be that big of an excuse.

Lack of creativity is a bigger problem, and I don't just mean the plot.

I don't believe that Douge Walker wanted to be a filmmaker, I think that's something that came along with all the donations, he doesn't look like a guy that really likes movies and he definitely doesn't understand them, his film making abilities are way way bellow amateur, he has no skills as a writer, I don't know how he finished school because he doesn't know how to write as a normal human being (check his scripts if don't believe me), he's not willing to learn any technical detail of how to shoot a scene because he thinks that what he's doing is fine.
He's in it for the money and he makes quite a lot of it.

generally you can categorise popular channels on youtube into one of a few things

The most bizarre thing is that Hila is actually way funnier than Ethan. Every good joke from h3h3 comes from out of her mouth and then its a 50/50 chance that Ethan will either acknowledge it in a way that keeps it being funny or completely shuts down the joke.

The worst example was the kissing prank video where hila said "Next he should do a baby kissing prank" and I nearly fell off my chair. Thankfully Ethan the joke killer showed up in time to save me from falling.

I think it is worth mentioning these guys aren't really critics, they simply critique films mainly for entertainment purposes. What they do is discuss their opinions about the films they watch, again, for entertainment. In no way do they pretend they are some kind of authority on filmmaking or film reviewing, which a lot of the little retards who watch them think they are. It's not surprising either because these little retards have taken internet film criticism as a means to validate their own opinions.

When a "real critic" reviews a film they give you a synopsis of the film and then tell you if it is worth watching. The point of this type of film criticism is to get people to watch movies, or avoid the ones that suck. The point is to sell the movie, not to break it down and nitpick.

I doubt anyone here is old enough to remember At the Movies, but if you watch that you'd see how different that type of film criticism is from the shit people think of "film reviewing" when they look at youtube critics.

James has actually made good short films. He shouldn't have ever tried to stretch a character as one dimensions as TAVGN into a full length feature film. His kickstarter donors would have rather seen him make a black and white horror film, and thats what he should have done.

Red letter media on the other hand could probably make a decent indie movie from the production angle, but they don't have any good writers in their crew. (Besides the hooker from the plinkett reviews, the dont have any good actors either. Sorry Rich.)
