I gave it a shot.

I couldn't get past Hiddleston's character always being called good looking and charming. Are you to tell me that Hugh Laurie's character let this guy enter his inner circle and his intuition is based on Hiddleston good looks and charm alone.

One moment I thought High Laurie may have bee trying to set up Hiddleston. When they were in that Istanbul port. I really expected a set-up. I don't know since I stopped after episode 5.

It's a cliche that's based in reality, though. The characters are really spot-on, that's what those guys looked like, acted like, talked like, etc.

This show is really the "conclusion" to the whole genre of the Italian-American gangster film. It gives you the whole picture, gives you key characters to represent different parts of mob life, and explores them thoroughly from every angle. There's nothing left to say about the mob after this show, that's why every single gangster film released since then has felt stale and cliched. Like, Black Mass would've been a perfectly good film in a world where Goodfellas and The Sopranos never existed, but it's too late for that. It's all been done now.
