I liked it, but that's probably because I'm a sucker for anything kaiju related.

Kong just isn't that interesting. In the 3 big movies he's had, they haven't changed his character ONCE (Skull Island came the closest with the idea of him being an "island god").
Godzilla has stayed interesting for 60 years because they did so much different stuff with him. Each era has their own unique feel to them that keeps them fresh, and most of the one-off movies (GMK, Shin) have him take on an entirely different character that may not even fit with the era.

I just finished watching this about an hour ago. It would have been more interesting to see john c riley and the jap become friends and go on island adventures.

Just random thoughts while I was watching:
-Why didn't the helicopters just increase altitude after meeting Kong, they just had a ridiculous Icarus monologue a min before.
- Flames reflecting in the glasses was cheesy as fuck.
-The way the anti-war photographer holds her camera like a weapon is annoying.
-Why would you make natives pose instead of capturing them doing native things?
-Why mention giant ants and never show them?
-Why put on a gas mask to do that 300 style side scrolling slasher slowmo only to take off the mask still in the gas?
-After every death the characters are awfully carefree, you think they would be on high alert? After the guy is cut up in the air, they don't even retreat inside the boat for refuge.
-Why didn't Kong do his signature separating the jaw from head move? They even started setting it up, but no pay off.
- The grenade sacrifice guy didn't even make sense.
- How did they expect no one to talk about what they saw? The rescue crew surely saw Kong beating his chest
- Every single death happened so quick that you didn't feel anything at all. "Dear Billy" just gets eaten off screen, John Goodman is gobbled and lizard runs off, guy is carried off into sunset and scene ends, Kong haphazardly steps on a few, Kong fists Samuel L Jackson and runs off to fight the lizard. None have any lasting effect
-Aren't the Russians going to be there in 3 days to just fuck everything up?

Ending was stupid, who cares that John C Riley found his wife, I would have rather watched the goverment capture Kong and set him loose on Vietnam as payback.

This scene really pissed me off because it starts with John c Reilly's crazy WWII fighter pilot character swinging the sword. That guy was crazy enough that I don't mind seeing him swing a sword at pterodactyls, it was appropriately silly. Then Tom Hiddleston has to butt in and be action man, which is when the filmmakers decided that it's "BADASS TIME" and put the unnecessary slow motion that just makes Hiddleston look even sillier.

characters were too stupid, i stopped watching after they all went into the killer jungle to look for some assclown.

i tried to finish the movie, and then the fucking characters, too stupid to put a bullet in sam jacksons head, GO BACK TO THE STUPID FUCKING JUNGLE.

Kong: Skull Island was by no means a great film, nor is it a retelling of the mighty King Kong story. WHat it is, however, is a film that has Kong in a new enviroment, fun cliches, and fun action. It's the kind of fun monster movie audiences haven't had since "Jurassic Park" where all monster films have to be serious.

Kong: Skull Island is refreshing in that regard.

the film is full of weird shit.

unfortunately it looks like they filmed a couple different versions of the film. one where JCR is a PTSD guy stuck in the jungle still fighting out WW2. one where the whole film is camp comedy. one where sam jackson re-does apocalypse now...

but then they mixed it all together and made it a shit show instead of something interesting. i'd like to see the 3 different versions of the film, too bad they never release films like that. all those different takes and scenes cut on the floor and never released on dvd even as deleted scenes. just gone forever.
