I saw the trailer for this and wanted to see it, but it wasn't on at my local cinema.

Yes. Baits you with a clash of civilization type of setting but instead gives you an insight about one's own convictions, faith and arrogance

boring ass movie
Today's Japan is more religiously tolerant than anywhere in the West. Here if the subject happens to come up that you're a Christian people will politely ask questions about basic Christian theology and you can engage in a friendly discussion. In the West if you mention that you can't meet up on Sunday morning because you have church or something like that people will literally roll their eyes, scoff at you, and laugh in your face and call you stupid bigot and disassociate from you, even crossing the street when they see you coming up the sidewalk. These are acquaintances you known for months and had many conversations with. Western "liberal" atheists are the worst, most closed-minded, and most prejudiced bigots in human history by far. Most people in Japan are nominally atheist so it must be some other cultural element that when combined with atheism produces such toxic personalities.
