No, but might as well finish...I can't wait until you get to the kid orgy.

The thing I treasure about this novel is how fucking bad it is. It's King shifting into his Dark Tower "autistic world-building checklist" mode, taking a genuinely scary idea (a mysterious, child murdering clown only certain people seem to see) and utterly ruining it with over-explanation and a colossal anticlimax.

Marble Hornets is "IT" done correctly, at a fraction of the movie's budget.

IT's a spider. Or a drider, if you're THAT faggot.

SFW. And yeah, I know it's symbolism (same as that fucking turtle), don't try to get high and mighty. It's King trying to do Eldritch Horror and failing miserably.

Final scene from Sleepaway Camp. It's something that's accidentally scary because of the uncanny valley effect.

See, using 80s practical effects, the producers needed to show that a girl was actually a mad slasher boy all along. So they sized up a model of the actresses head, and plonked it down on a naked guy's body. Needless to say, the fake head didn't move, so this guy's standing there with his junk hanging out and that frozen expression.

Very unnerving.

King signed off on this design being close to what he intended. In the book its pointed out the thing is muscular, spiders have exoskeletons and not visible muscles. It also picks one of the characters up in it's hands. See the image? See the features? It's not a spider thats just the best the kids could describe it. If this were Stranger Things they kids being D&D geeks would be calling it a drider.
>>
>>81420044
So is the new movie just the part of the book that takes place in the past? I just checked the cast list and the characters are all just children.
>>
>>81425020

but what part of it looks like a Drow?
>>
>>81425109
It's not a drow, it is a drider. A drider is anything mixed of humanoid characteristics and a spider. From D&D that was drow. But it is not limited to it. In anime they're called archane and in western pop culture they are called driders due because that was the first name assigned the creature.

It's like Vampires.
Dracula is the most popular vampire and one of the first. He started it all. So vampires are based off his design, but not limited too it. That is why shows like Twilight have Vampires that are nothing like Dracula's vampires but they're still vampires.

That's how pop culture works.
>>
>>81420044
A shit book where King tries to be Lovecraft without having any idea what made Lovecraft great, and the scary clown turns out to be an eldritch spider in a rivalry with a celestial turtle. It's one of the worst "horror" novels ever written.

It's great but I'm not sure it's one of the 10 greatest works of literature ever conceived.
It's a great idea and delivers the shocking nature of it's message/warning really well, but it's not particularly meaningful or deep. It's very clear what it sets out to do. And it does that very well, don't get me wrong, but it's the kind of story where the ideas are more important than the execution and a class on analysis of the thing would probably be just as good as reading it by yourself.

Also the bullies in ST were total pussies. Seems like they were in the show solely so Le Eleven could break a kid's arm. Didn't feel earned. This. I don't know what people see in this story. A clown that just terrorizes kids but never actually harms any of them, that turns out to be a shapeshifting space alien that for some reason chooses to lurk in a small town sewer for decades. Lame as fuck.
>>
>>81420044
IT is intelligent
>>
>>81429459

I think it was mentioned that IT is only a fragment of The Spider, like a tiny shard of glass from a great mirror. Also, I think it's imprisoned in Derry, not there willingly.

After all, IT is afraid of the Loser's Club. If it could just leave and shack up in some other city, I'm sure it would.

I am an edgelord to eglord's edglords so I think King is a hack. Youtubers who only released 1 video every 2 months though are fucking GOAT!
>>
The old version seemed more terrifying to me. Defense:

He put on an actual clown voice to lure children in. He wasn't trying to be scary, he was portraying every parent's nightmare - a stranger their kid finds trustworthy enough to get abducted. His actions were perfectly formulated to tease and show how fun things could be if they just came to him.

This new one is a movie monster.
>>
>>81429898

He only lured Georgie. Literally everyone else he made no secret about his intentions.
>>
One of the few King books with a moderately decent ending, the other being Salem's Lot since we kind of saw that in the beginning of the prologue.

With IT and Dark Tower are we about to witness the rise of Kingkino cinematic universe?
>>
>>81429933
When they spotted him. All the way throughout the story, even when he knew they knew, he still played a clown and messed with them.
>>
>>81429459
IT kills plenty of people, both adults as well as kids. What makes the Loser's club partially immune to it is each of them instinctually understanding that IT's glamours and magic are a two-edged sword and can be turned against it.
>>
>>81429898
>The old version seemed more terrifying to me. Defense:
I am not reading the rest of your post. I can safely bet I've read your post over 100 times. You haven't read the book and you pretend Tim Curry's IT wasn't a total freak who would put any kid off. You also pretend a clown in a stormdrain wouldn't put kids off in general no matter what. Only reason IT had success was because it had magical powers.
>>
>>81429979
Okay. Still leagues better than movie monster #666420.
>>
>>81429958

True. As to this new one being a movie monster, I'm hoping they put all the jumpscares and shit in the trailer to lure the new horror fans and will remain true to his personality in the actual movie. Probably hoping in vain.

Pennywise would have to be very funny and happy sounding to lure kids with the way he looks now.
>>
>>81430014
For all we know at this point, Georgie doesn't even see him the way the audience does. There are several things in the trailer that strike me as already being more faithful to the book.
>>
>>81430111

If rumors are true, it will be more faithful. I just hope they include the Turtle and the Ritual of Chud.
>>
>>81422517
>>81422647

I remember reading one of his short stories and out of nowhere he described a character getting a boner as he was dying for absolutely no reason. It was so bizarrely out of place and I'm pretty sure he does that a lot.
>>
>>81430111
Question: Would anyone want a film adaptation of the book, totally faithful? Even the Harry Potter films switched things around for a better movie experience. A lot of books I wish they'd take the general plot from and just run with something better, 'cause a lot of the time the book ends up being worse.

How is this Pennywise more offputting? He looks and will no doubt sound more perfectly reasonable to Georgie than Tim Curry. I like Tim Curry especially in Tales From The Crypt where he played an entire family, but the guy was a shit Pennywise.
>>
>>81430240

Look at that. Imagine seeing that at five years old. "Hey, kid, come float down here. I'm a fairy. Don't you believe in fairies?"
>>
>>81430222
>Question: Would anyone want a film adaptation of the book, totally faithful?
Yes. In every forum it is clear that a large portion of a community wants a 1:1 adaptation of X especially when it can easily be argued that the changes Hollywood producers make are for the worse. Not saying this IT film will be a perfect adaptation but your question is inherently dumb.
>>
>>81420788
Just the one guy, and it costs him his life.
>>
>>81430281

There are still some things that just could not be in the movie. THAT scene, obviously, the part where Beverly's father tries to rape her, arguably the blowjob scene between Henry and Patrick.
>>
>>81430281
It's not dumb. Hellraiser is an example of a book I'd like to see -closer- to the book, but is perfectly fine in its first adaptation to film. The Princess Bride is a shit book, but totally worked when they changed it for the movie. The Green Mile was a better movie, and so was 2001. Always wanting something completely faithful to a book is honestly stupidity in pretentious form.
>>
>>81430392

I got up to the part when the first guy gets the phone call and killed himself then gave up. He fills his books with too much bullshit that's completely uninteresting and unneeded. I like a lot of his stuff but sometimes I groan when he goes into detail about some irrelevant shit that isn't needed. And his endings. It's like he just gives up and wants to move on to his next idea.

"Pretentious" isn't a fashionable word. The word "buzzword" is a literal buzzword, though.

Explain. I see it thrown around all the time on the internet. You fags don't use it to troll. (would using it to troll mean it isn't fashionable?)
>>
>>81430622
Why are you even visiting places where a majority of the users are using the word "pretentious"? Where the fuck is this horrid place?

You can tell it's going to be shit from the design of IT alone.

Rather than make it creepy and unsettling, they go for LE EPIC WESTERN HORROR SCARY FACE >:D

They want some Chucky knock-off to market to dudebros and hot topic kids, not an actual manifestation of horror.

I said the word is thrown around all the time. I did not say the word pretentious is in 51 or greater percent of posts.

It's between 27-30.
Usually 27.
It sleeps for 26-27 years and is ready to be woken up by a major violent event, it doesn't take that long for a violent event to occur so 27 years is the typical sleep time for it.

Yeah, he's a shite writer that is barely good if you're an early teen. I like how his fan club tried to blame the awful Dreamcatcher on his accident. The guy is a hack who could only be successful in America.

This.
He says he got his inspiration for IT from walking across a bridge at night to pick up his car from the shop when he remembered the '3 billy goats gruff' fable.
>"Who's that trip trapping upon my bridge!"
Then he was like "Whoa, what if the bridge was a town."
>>
>>81434829

That makes no sense at all. The mental labyrinth you'd have to tread through to get from Three Billy Goats Gruff to IT is extensive.
>>
Here's hoping they include the scene with the mayor's son smoking weed on a hill watching the town shake apart.
>>
>>81434884
Yeah.
He also said he got inspiration from browsing the library in the children's fiction section when he turned around he was looking at the adult fiction section. He was like "Hey, the journey from Childhood to Adulthood could be like crossing a bridge."
Fuckin' drugs, man.
>>
>>81433596
But there was no violent event that caused IT to wake up in 1957-58. Georgie was the first victim but nothing precipitated the awakening like the killing of the gay man in 1985.
>>
>>81434964

Which then somehow translated to seven children fucking in a sewer?
>>
>>81434884
If you've read his memoirs "On Writing" he goes over how most of his stories are him getting random, spontaneous ideas from doing normal everyday things.

He also admits to the hardcore drugs and alcohol contributing to his work, but says its all bullshit that authors "need" them as a crutch. Saying Hemingway wasn't good because he was an alcoholic, but because he was just good.
>>
>>81435008
I guess.
>>
>>81424987

That is wrong anon.

In IT Mike talks how Derry is voilent even when IT is sleeping. Rape, murder, incest and other stuff are all well above the U.S avarage.
>>
>>81435160

So if it sleeps for years, why has no one ever discovered its lair as it slept?

>>
>>81435186

The maps to the sewers are lost and the guy who knew about the layout was killed in WW2.
>>
>>81435160
>only reason why these three guys beaten up a faggot was because he openly provoked them, and that happen after him being in the city for few months
>meanwhile everybody treating average Joe MC of 11/22/63 like shit at first day he came to Derry
>>
>>81435186
iirc even when it sleeps IT has some sort of mental hold on the city which is why everyone kinda just accepts all the weird tragedies taking place as part of life and why no maintenance men ever goes down into the sewers
