I wouldnt have a problem with Janeway killing Tuvix to save her friends if she was not so inconsistent about it

See the first episode with the Vidians where she is willing to let the guy who stole Neelixs lungs live to not kill anyone even though it means Neelix will die indirectly by her

Or all the times she refuses to blow up an enemy ship to save crew members

Actually the creators of the show said on one of the dvd special features that he got the idea for Neelix right after he came out of a movie theater in the mid 90s. He had just watched a new Disney movie called The Lion King, and he wanted an alien character on voyager that was a cross between Timon, and Pumbaa.

yes I know Beyond referenced splicing and I bet maybe in TNG\TOS but all TNG brought were clones and people stuck in the buffer zone of transporters/energy.

That also never happened. She did leave him as she was forced to leave all of her dear friends on Voyager ,but she had no choice in the matter.

Off yourself, retard. Two-way radios existed when TOS was being produced (and TOS communicators were two-way radios, not cell). TNG+ communicators could be argued to be cellular though, but it's still a massive bullshit meme perpetuated by psuedoscience retards.

Also it isn't just about the stuff on the surface, how Star Trek handles basic design and engineering is fucking retarded: like using plasma to transfer power and data, mental as fuck and why their shit blows up and kills crewmembers even when their "shields" are still up. And the bullshit magic regarding frequencies for everything, retarded as fuck. Don't get me started on the fucking holodecks, holy shit.

Obviously this shittily applied technology was there for dramatic purposes, but again that goes back to the cell phone meme and then the PADDs; it's all shallow on-the-surface technology. But behind the curtain science and technology in Trek is so badly depicted and applied, and I've never liked how even educated people put Star Trek up on a pedestal for that.

Eddington.jpg

>>81378739

Eddington was morally correct because his threat was of an existential nature. Sisko's threat was the POSSIBILITY that the Cardassians would consider it an act of war by not taking out the Maquis, even though this was during the Dominion takeover of Cardassia and the Maquis didn't consider themselves part of the Federation anymore.

Seconded by the fact that Eddington lays it out completely for Sisko and the writers still forced Sisko into insanity. I think it's the only time in the series where they had to write the Defiant crew ready to disobey his orders.

>>
>>81377495

I think vaporizing Tuvix would have been justified.

You lose Tuvok, which sucks but you also rid the crew of Neelix which would have forced the writers to do something other than have a Sizzler chef for multiple seasons.
>>
>>81383450
>That was a week later.

Then I retract that part of my argument but the Dominion had already become a threat to every part of the Alpha Quadrant once they infiltrated both the Klingon Empire, Earth / UFoPs, and successfully defended against the Cardassian / Romulan attempt to take out the Dominion.

Cardassia also going to war over people who have chosen to leave the Federation and were considered outcast by the Federation as well would have been foolish on their part. At best, Cardassians would've launched a counter attack on the Maquis without the aid of Starfleet.

No, I believe I'm still quite right in this.

>Sisko always says that bad things will happen if the Klingons/Maquis keep messing with the Cardassians
>bad things do end up happening

Sisko did cross a line in his pursuit of Eddington, but the writers are ~subtly~ telling you that Sisko's reasoning was justified.
>>
>>81383804

It was justified, but so was what Eddington was doing. Eddington was simply MORE right than Sisko. Which is decent writing when you consider it.
>>
>>81383804
I'm the first pro Edington guy I thought I'd chim back in. I still think Sisko betrayed his uniform, but mostly in his obvious derangement. However I think trying to appease the cardassians was a reasonable idea. Even though they switch sides to the Dominion very quickly. I didn't see that coming
>>
>>81384039
I agree with this I mean he had to go ask Eddington for his help
>>
>>81383804
>Sisko did cross a line in his pursuit of Eddington, but the writers are ~subtly~ telling you that Sisko's reasoning was justified.

No, what they were trying to paint was a picture where both sides were wrong but that their actions were necessary.

Sisko's entire spiel is "FOR THE UNIFORM!"; "YOUR DUTY, YOUR STARFLEET OATH!". It's a fucking vendetta and it's more the motivation than preventing war than anything else in the episode from him.

In fact, I think he says that shit on three separate occasions throughout the episode. On the Defiant holographic transmission, the subspace message he sends to Sisko's office, and another time that evades me (could've been another episode, just not sure atm)

I cannot agree that Eddington was right when the Maquis didn't need to exist in the first place. The Federation colonists in the DMZ should have just packed up and moved to a different planet if it meant keeping the peace. Any planet in the Federation will do, considering that transportation is free, supplies are free and land is free.

Yeah, losing your home sucks, but it's the lesser of two evils, considering that your other option is to murder Cardassian colonists (or be murdered by them in turn).

And of course the Maquis' attacks led to the Cardassians joining the Dominion, so all those billions of deaths are on the Maquis' head.

>>
>>81384196

The Maquis existed BECAUSE the federation wouldn't act against Cardassia when they should have. Keeping the peace, to them was more important than protecting their citizens. They conceded territory to Cardassia to placate them rather than ensuring the safety of their citizens. The Maquis existed because the Federation was stupid and impotent.

They were already there. They colonized those planets under Federation sanction. Then, after the Federation/Cardassian war the Federation gave them those systems.
>>
>>81384236
>DUKAT: You might ask, should we fear joining the Dominion? And I answer you, not in the least. We should embrace the opportunity. The Dominion recognises us for what we are. The true leaders of the Alpha Quadrant. And now that we are joined together, equal partners in all endeavours, the only people with anything to fear will be our enemies. My oldest son's birthday is in five days. To him and to Cardassians everywhere, I make the following pledge. By the time his birthday dawns, there will not be a single Klingon alive inside Cardassian territory or a single Maquis colony left within our borders. Cardassia will be made whole. All that we have lost will be ours again, and anyone who stands in our way will be destroyed. This I vow with my life's blood. For my son, for all our sons.
The way that Dukat sold the Cardassian/Dominion alliance to the Cardassian people was with a promise to get rid of the Klingons and Maquis in Cardassian territory.

>>81384294
Yeah, it sucks that the Federation abandoned those citizens' homes.

Those citizens still should have chosen to accept the Federation's offer to relocate them, since it was a better option (for their own safety and for their own souls) than forming the Maquis and becoming killers and/or killed.

Different people.
>>
>>81384473

Those citizens chose to be colonists because they didn't want Federation rule. They wanted to exist in and among themselves. The Federation is not perfect, no matter how much they seem to pretend that it is. That's what DS9 was striving for. TNG was fucking ridiculous and completely ignored how other species would actually behave if they interacted with each other. DS9 was rogue in that it basically said, "fuck that, there's no way the galaxy would be perfect and uniform if it actually existed like this."
>>
>>81384473
This dialogue actually serves three purposes, as I see it. It shows Dukat trying to redeem himself after the blunder that was the Bajoran resistance and the Cardassians botched exit strategy that gave the Feds DS9, the threat of the Klingons (which were the only real threat to Cardassian stability), and the ongoing nuisance of the Maquis. The Maquis were a minor threat until Sisko helped the Cardassians back in Season 2. By Season 5, the Cardassians were doing what the Dominion would later do and that's wipe them out, so the Maquis went broke and started using atmsopheric biological weapons.

All that said, your/his post said nothing about Klingons and nothing about Dukat's character development.
>>
>>81384547
Yeah I think it got scuttled does memory alpha have good trek debate / talk ?
>>
>>81384589
Just think though:

In DS9, when those Fed colonists refused to relocate for the Cardassians, the Federation allowed them to remain in their colonies alongside the new Cardassians owners.

In TNG, when those Fed colonists refused to relocate for the Cardassians, the Federation ordered Picard to forcibly remove them so that the Cardassians could have the planets to themselves.

The TNG Federation is even scarier than the DS9 Federation, in a way.

Let's be real though when he joined the federation military Data must have surrendered some right to his body. If they can command them to die in their service, they sure as shit can command them to do some sort of medical service. They'd either get him voluntarily to let them tinker with him, or at the very least they'd be able to study him enough to copy him anyways.

The fact that they didn't have more androids after discovering him is one of the stupidest things in Trek as an entire fiction
>>
>>81385161
Lol yeah I hadn't thought about it like that the military has done like tons of experiments on soldier's. I guess I just expect the Federation to be more but then it's just kind of this bureaucracy that wants to spread itself like the Borg just as Eddington said

In practice it's dogshit because it's Voyager and there's not a single actor on set.

Trek fans are like little giddy children that fall in line with their opinions because of this.

Season 4 and 5 are some of the best seasons of trek I've ever watched, that includes season 5 of TNG and DS9 and season 3 and ENT.

If you watched Voyager from Scorpion through Dragon's Teeth, it would definitely take number 3 spot.

If you hate Enterprise, then you hate at least decent television.
It's rarely BAD, unlike almost every other Trek.
The trio of Archer, T'Pol, and Trip is one of my favourite groupings in the franchise.
They sort of botched the T'Pol/Trip shipment but it was good enough for me.

It's flaws are in that it started sluggishly and the network couldn't foresee franchise fatigue.
