I barely watch him anymore. Every single episode I have watched in recent times though, he makes sure to assure you he is a liberal. I watched it originally because he was beter at explaining why things don't work, specifically in terms of character motivation. However, after watching his newer stuff, I noticed that his style has changed, and NOT just because of the skits.

For example, Doug's early shit with the sketches wasn't TOO bad. They made sense with the rest of the review and worked in tandem together with the message of why the movie being reviewed is wrong. A good example is his review with "Son of the Mask" in which he elaborates very well on why things don't work and what's wrong with them, stating that it's weird for people to think a child would not be weirded out by it, and states the writing flaws of the film. Another example is the Princess Diaries 2 review, where the whole setting of the review itself is done to explain in parallel why the movie is not only bad for it's writing, directing, etc., but because it's a ploy. He did that pretty well, making each scenario he reviewed match up with the moral why a film doesn't work.

The problem NOW is that he makes his gags not only unrelated to the actual message of the review, but that the mesage of the review no longer holds any value, as he overshadows what is to be gained from learning and analyzing the flaws (in a comdeic fashion) of the film. He recently review "Fant4stic", and he tries his older model again, but it fails, because he opens up with his scenario, but thinks that seeing it for only a minute is enough humor.

Basically, he's just not as good as he was, and the reason his humor worked, even when it DID have sketches, has now escaped him.


Or at least that's my take.

I wouldn't doubt that it was early "critics" like NC that has resulted in copyright holders being so trigger happy on YouTube and shutting everyone down who show too much footage, because he's effectively ripping the majority of the film in some cases and interjecting it with his weak comedy.

Thinking back I wouldn't doubt the only reason I enjoyed his older videos is because it was a way of being introduced to cheesy old movies with some friend simulator on the side, not because of his personality/comedy.

I hadn't watched him in a long time until the Fantastic Four "review" and it was more or less just a bunch of retarded skits and autistic screeching. That intro was cringy as fuck too.

I remember the days when he would just sit and review shit as well as make funny commentary. The Room was the last good interview I saw and even then it had a shitty Back to the Future skit that was out of place and annoying.
Then the fucker had the audacity to make fun of the people that wanted the old style reviews back.
Demo Reel failed because it was an unfunny piece of shit, and all he's managed to do is to try and cram as much of that failed project into the only thing that's brought him actual popularity and income. Doug's just a sad shell of a man living in denial and the only thing keeping him afloat are the autistic manchildren he panders to.

I used to watch Brad's videos all the time. I appriciated that it was less of "I'm "reviewing" a movie lol!" And more of "Look at this shit!" It was so bad that you couldn't defend it or explain so all you could do was watch. And he always brought up weird stuff too (Night of horror and The Geek are my favorites).

But then he decided to remove his cutoff date, like the NC did, and pretty much stuck to reviewing Christian films. For a year almost every other week he was reviewing a christian movie, and it wasn't weird stuff (Though there were 2: What will horses do and some other one I can't remember) it was all mainstream stuff that had been in the theaters for the past 2 years or so.

He got too preachy (Ironically) saying how they portray themselves as the underdogs but society is built for them (Check that privilege Christfags) He wasn't even doing jokes, he was just yelling. I wouldn't mind it as much but he only does Christianity doesn't knock on Islam or Hinduism and it just comes off as Safe virtue signaling; "I'm attacking religion because I'm edgy and I don't give a fuck about chrstians, but I'm not going to talk about anyone else" Seemed hypocritical to me. I'm an agnostic, but if you're going to go after religion, go after everyone. Credit where it's due at least Diamanda Hagan reviewed and mocked Muslims in International Guerrillas.

It seeped into his other work, and I've been watching him less and less. It's a shame. I thought he was the most talented one of that group.

RLM's skits are self-aware uninterested parodies of sitcoms and review shows where Mike and Jay set up an arbitrary and openly unrelated framework within which to set their talking about movies where they often say, "Fuck okay let's talk about the movie now".

Douge's skits are integral parts of his "reviews" because he considers himself, and I have trouble even typing this out, a serious satirist. His Christmas With the Kranks review pointed out very clearly he considers his terrible incompetent skits to be essential to the quality of his videos and highly valuable in their "critical" analysis of the movies he is molesting with his face and voice.

The irony is that RLM's self-aware, intentionally non-sequitor skits are better scripted, shot, and produced than Douge's skits which he considers part of his "art" which resemble a high school media class project.

With NC, the skits are always shitty transparent parody. And what's worse, they're all the exact same formula:

Doug Walker strikes me as the type of guy that's always made decent money on youtube.... like 40k a year-ish. But he makes such overproduced stuff with a host of actors (many of whom like the set design guy are paid for doing it full time) and a whole production crew these days.

It reeks of an operation that frequently costs just as much as it makes if not more.

I suspect Doug Walker is a "family fortune" type of guy who inherited enough to do what he loves and he likely believes at employing local talent at fair wages, which is likely costing him a pretty penny.
