I've never seen a Bollywood movie that hasn't felt like an overlong version of something that'd be direct-to-video here in the states. Garbage cinematography, bland derivative stories, over-acting out the ass, etc.
My gf heard about this movie called "3 Idiots" from some foreign friends and we decided to watch it last week. It was the type of thing that in the US would be a 90-minute indie comedy-drama you'd find in your Netflix queue but in India it's a 171 minute slog with musical numbers (which were entertaining) but with the same budget as a US indie movie. We ended up turning it off halfway through because we couldn't stand the Mary Sue main male character.
You could argue the same about most movies that come out of Scandinavian countries, but at least those have the benefit of beautiful cinematography and lots of naked tits to make up for the bad writing.

This is so accurate it's not even funny.
Although the Scandinavian film industry isn't quite as bad, there's a lot of shit and you're right about them using t&a to make up for it.

You've never seen a Bergman, Von Trier or Troell movie?

Worst part are the completely random singing and dacing numbers.

Well yeah. Bollywood is the Hollywood of India.

There are some excellent arthouse Indian directors, too.

Bollywood is garbage and it's intented to be garbage. The Indian Advertising Industry is where all the talented writers are. Bollywood revolves around Nepotism not talent. That aside you might probably like Anurag Kashyab or "A Wednesday"
