The problem with Waldo isn't the concept as much as the execution. It's like in a movie or show when one of the characters is supposed to be some genius painter or brilliant musician, when it's obvious that their work is mediocre crap. All the characters are gushing about how hilarious Waldo is, and what a fantastic character he is, when he's a lazy CGI neon bear that looks like a zero budget storyboard temp character with the kind of voice that you get if you tell some random guy to "do a crazy voice like right now." The acting is so bland and devoid of personality that his boss literally takes over Waldo mid-performance and nobody even notices.

The shitty execution changes the episode from being a critique of entertainment politics and the commodification of public service and turns it into some childishly edgy baby's first cynical tantrum. It's like Network, except with bad writing, lazy performances, and devoid of any criticism except to say that people are fucking stupid and will apparently watch anything.

I think it's SJ for San Junipero, if you're abbreviating it. One person's heaven is another person's purgatory. Real Heaven would probably be like doing heroin all the time, just sitting around blissed out. SJ was a play on what we imagine Heaven would be. No consequences, no concerns, you can eat all day and not get fat, live on the beach and not ever worry about a bill. You can still win games or score lovers, meaning that you can still lose and still be rejected. If you get that satisfied feeling of scratching an itch or eating a well-timed meal, it requires there to be itches and hunger, two things which don't really belong in Heaven. You can't have the reward without the absence of the reward. Remove the impulse, and all you have is heroin-fogged bliss. But a world without lust and desire doesn't seem very heavenly, even though that's what Heaven would be.

The big difference is that you can shut SJ off. There's nothing the White Christmas guy can do to escape. He can't kill himself or even stop the music; he just has to endure for millions of years.

The perfection of Heaven would be an immediately recognizable bliss for all and she had so many concerns it took the entire length of the movie for her to decide whether it was worth it while numerous people seemed pretty miserable and you could always adjust your sliders to feel pain.

I agree that God and Heaven is a self refuting paradox and SJ doesn't even live up to a modicum of the expectation of heaven while it is more comparable to doing heroin.
