They solved atleast the henchman side of a 20+ year old kidnapping and child rape organization.
They did a good deed.
>>81272090
oh mang, I remember the TD threads when the first season was airing. Best times.
What you think happened in the tape that was so harsh that two cops that have seen some shit even yelled out loud? (Beyond the rape and murder, I mean)

I ritually watch it once a year around the same period, usually winter when it's snowy outside and i'm like pic related
Never gets old, man.Especially with that bluray rip
You motherfuckers. Why you gotta remind me how good this was and make me watch it again? Why?
Fuck. You.
i wanted the ending to be different
i knew it was never going to fully embrace the Southern Gothic threads , even the hints at cosmic horror - deep down i knew
But it all just being some sister fucking hillbilly and the way Rust totally just transformed as a character to suddenly see god or whatever just felt super off
I'll break this circlejerk of a thread with a bit of criticism.
I don't enjoy tv shows, so everybody recommended me the first season of TD because it's more of a "mini-series", not a tv show for them.
Well for me the experience was exactly like any other tv show, unenjoyable.
The primary focus is on the writteb narrative and nothing else, the repetitive structure, countless establishing shots and shots of a car entering a location, countless "let's go to a bar for a beer" exposition dialogues, every episode has to end with a cliffhanger, every episode has one big moment where it all builds up to, countless twists and turns which result in a total disinterest in who is the actual killer by the end of the season etc
Like any other tv show.
Most of the time you don't even have to look at the screen, the back to back camerawork in dialogues get's so overused that you can basically just listen to the conversation without even watching the screen and grasp all the information you need because the written narrative is the main thing here, while in film it's the visual narrative.
Now carry on stroking and jerking off each other's opinion to oblivion.
>>81271951
He had to be a person you spastic douchekit.
Season 1 got messy towards the end but it's still very well executed. Season 2 doesn't deserve all the flack it gets. Not without it's problems but it a pretty good neo-noir whereas the first season was more of a southern gothic murder mystery. If TD season 2 didn't come after the hype of S1 it wouldn't have been so harshly excoriated.
Here's hoping that if they make a season 3 they disregard all the hate S2 got and don't feel the need to placate fanboys. When I hear them talking about possibly bringing Matthew Mcconaughey back, I really worry. Runs completely counter to the whole premise of an anthology series.
Part of the appeal is that each season will have it's own identity. The only unifying qualities from season to season need be that:
1. It revolve around a central mystery which will serve as a catalyst for towards the unraveling of a larger conspiracy.
2. The solving of the aforementioned mystery serve as the impetuous for the downtrodden/morally tone deaf characters to begin some form of introspection which results in catharsis.
And 3. That there be sense of foreboding/melancholy employed through it's direction. (Say what you want about either season, but both are ripe with atmosphere and most other shows on TV don't carry an ounce of the tone present in the show.)
Anyways... yes... I am sad i won't get to watch either for the first time again and I hope they make a season three that, for better or worse, strives to be it's own iteration of TD formula.
Autistic rambling over now.

He didn't believe in the christian god at the ens. He believed in spirituality at the end. The idea that the world isn't what it seems.
Rust lived his while life with nothing out of the ordinary reality ever interfering.
And then fights a teleporting hillbilly, has the most convenient vision of all times and experiences depth in a state of coma.
If you don't believe in magic you only need to see one fireball being cast.

Why do ppl get so deep about the "finding god" thing? He had a near death experience and felt some kind of (quite feasibly chemical-induced) sense of contentment and connection with his idea of his wife and daughter. Regardless of if this was intended as evidence of the divine, the result was Rust wanting very much to die so he could be "with them." How is that out of character?

>>81274024
I stopped watching season 2 after Colin Farrel ate it. The only character I got invested in after 2 episodes and they fucking killed him. I don't really give a shit about the molested knife fetish little cop, Channing Tatum lite, or Vince Vaughn's shitty mob boss life.
Convince me I made a mistake.
>>81277303
Don't talk about Vince.

It's not quite feasible because according to what we know comatose patients shouldn't be dreaming. They do not go through the NREM and REM sleep cycle.
As far as we know brain activity is very low, it only changes when hearing something familiar. And that's it.
>>81270210
You're so enamored with it that even if something better came, you'd probably dismiss it as inferior.

> the most uninteresting characters end up surviving
TD is so insanely overrated on here, it's mind-boggling.
I didn't realize Errol's father was still alive until recently.
>>81277303
He didn't die. It is revealed at the beginning of the very next episode that he was shot with riot shells. So our favorite drunk cop gets to continue plodding through the morass of teh great California mystery : )

Are you mocking me or is that true?
>>81277523
Most TV is shit, so it's not surprising that standards of taste on a TV board is low. This is the same medium wherein a completely mediocre story like Breaking Bad gets put on a pedal stool.

>>81277738
Sure, Woody Harrelson was excellent in TDS1, but imagine if Rust had been partnered with this guy instead.
His entire existential crisis would be dealt with in the first two episodes.
>>81277055
duh
>>81273684
I disagree totally. It takes guts to not be cynical in TV and be really fucking good at the same time. I love The Sopranos and The Wire, and no sane person could deny their god-tier status, but in a way I more respect shows like True Detective (Season 1 only), Young Pope, Twin Peaks, and even Deadwood that manage to be uplifting without it feeling fake or saccharine.
>>81271951

First episode might not hook you. I actually watched the first 3 and gave up on it, then went back to it- but I'm glad I did, because watching it to completion is one of the best experiences I've had with media of any kind.
Season 2 was better.
S1 had a couple nice Daddarios and that one chick's phat ass though.

>>81280559
it's not just that. it's the time elapsed over the course of the narrative. perfect formula and execution.
the time that passes as we watch and the time that passes in the lives of the characters amplifies our bond to them and unlike a lot of TV shows that go for the standard 1 year or few months shtick, this is something that could only be done in a mini-series format. can you imagine if this was a movie and the 90's episodes were cut down to a flashback or two?
Excuse me?

>>81280922
bron broen (the bridge) is good, with likeable, fleshed-out characters
the two leads in season 1 are a female autist and a married womaniser, watching them bond is kinda like watching rust and marty getting to know each other because they're so different in worldviews
it's not as interesting in its setting and tries a bit too hard to play into social issues, but its negatives are few and far between so i'd definitely recommend it as a starting point
Can somebody please explain to a brainlet the supernatural elements. I got the spiritual undertones, but I never got the idea that it was supernatural.
