to me Sam's character represented the archetypal non-confrontational beta cuck who thought his >educated wife with an >associate's degree is something his peers and society in general would hold in high regard. when Nick fucks her shit up either one of those 2 happen:
1) he's too much of a beta to even stand up and defend his wife other than being a le calm rational redditman. he's completely void of testosterone as a result of society telling him that it's irrational to be manly.
2) he doesn't even himself believe that his wife is worthy of protection because during that moment he doesn't get affected by it on an instinctual level. during these seconds she doesn't get registered as his female life partner in his lizard brain. she's just some annoying feminist whose ideas he adopted just to bang her so it would be too much to put his skin on the line for someone like her. Nick gets it and Sam the beta wouldn't wanna jeopardize his relationship with Nick for his useless wife
