But the bigger reason you shouldn't just do vitamins and water is that you got to be overweight because you have a bad eating pattern. It's important that you develop good eating patterns. By just going off food completely you'll have failed to develop healthy eating habits when you go back to eating and you increase your likelihood of regaining the weight.

With other problems like a drinking or drugs this isn't the case because abstaining works just fine. There's no need to engage in daily responsible drinking or responsible heroin consumption.

Me? I'm a 6'1 guy who works out a few hours per week. I probably need around 3000 calories to maintain. (but that doesn't mean I should go crazy with the fat I'm taking in)

My girlfriend, on the other hand, is 5'0 and 85 lbs but still very active. She should only be taking in 1900 calories (if she was inactive it would be closer to 1500 cals)

so 2000 is a good rule of thumb but is not a true measurement
