Seems alright. Don't understand his love of the DCEU or why he has so much trouble making his cheap slacker comedies these days.
>>
all of his movies suck and he is a douche

I liked the first 30 minutes of Red State.

He can be funny but overall you can never trust what he says because he has his toes in marvel and DC and will gladly rim them when it is convenient.

He also has a habit of discounting his co-host's opinions because it might be bad for business (shitting on Ralph Garman for hating what Synder is doing to the DC cinematic universe and Marc Bernardin for keeping it fucking real about Iron fist.)

I listened to a podcast a few weeks ago where he said, and I quote, "I would definitely let that guy fuck my wife," and he went on and on about it despite not being able to read the uncomfortable vibe in the room. So yes, dude is also, legitimately a cuck.
>>
I like him in small doses. He's a naturally funny, entertaining guy and I can respect how much he loves the things he talks about. He's a legit manchild though.
>>
>>81234708
Why does he dress that way? It makes him look 2 feet tall.

>have characters interact with one another
>have one speak really loudly
>have the other keep talking to the point where words don't even make sense anymore
>repeat 20 times a movie

I respect that he put a lot of work and dedication into making "Clerks", and that he probably had to do a lot of work to get where he is today, but I've never enjoyed a single film of his.

His films aren't funny. Like at all. Every joke is essentially just a bunch of stoners talking about sci fi and super hero stories in the context of mundane ever day life. If it's not that it's either a weed or poop joke. Plus visually they're extremely boring.

It's very clear that he just doesn't give a shit any more too. When critics got wise to how lazy his films are he got mad, continued to make shit films, received the same bad reviews and then just stopped caring.

Now he makes films that he says are "Supposed to be stupid", because he's not willing to commit to ever making anything genuine again because he knows it probably won't be received well anyway.
>>
>>81234708
He's an amazing public speaker and seems like a legitimately nice person.
>>
>>81234708
He's a big guy.

Why does he wear the shorts?
If I pull them off would he die?
They didn't fit so good.
Lotta loyalty for a pair of shorts.

Clerks had great dialogue but clunky performances. I loved the camera work too. In all it's one of my favorite movies.

Mall Rats is okay but tried too hard.

Chasing Amy is cringe fuel.

I liked Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back exactly one time.

Dogma was funny when I was 14 and thought it was super blasphemous. Now it feels like an edgy after school special - the cinematic equivalent of a youth group leader saying fuck and shit to make you think he's cool.

Clerks 2 was cancer except the string of racial slurs. That part was very informative and enriching.

I lost interest after that.

He comes across to me as someone who grew up with no one giving a shit about him or his ideas, so now he lives to hear himself talk. Those Evening With Kevin Smith features are hours of self-gratification, and I'm sure his jeans were a sticky, crusty mess afterwards.
>>
Seth Rogan was his downfall
>>
the weird thing about his shitty movies is they aren't meme worthy. pop culture movies usually have that as a redeeming quality, but his are just forgettable trash.
>>
>>81234708
Doesn't he constanly cry over capeshit stuff?

He truly belongs on /tv/ so

He's awful

Those are among the stupidest fucking pants ever invented.

Fat loser
>>
The very definition of a hack.
And why we shouldn't use "cult" to label exceptionally bad movies.
>>
>>81234708
His flims are okay but his appearances on shows, interviews, segments, youtube make him seem like a dumbass
>>
>>81235469
Zack and Miri make a porno is his best film
>>
>>81235176
I agree while I do enjoy some of his films but in a way one of your buds directed it kinda way
>>
>>81236848
Yeah I can get that.
>>
He's the textbook definition of a manchild but he managed to have one half-successful movie

clerks is extremely nostalgic to me and was a lot better than i expected it to be.
clerks 2 is mediocre but isn't anywhere as bad as people say it is, kevin smith could have done a lot worse.

seth rogen introduced kevin to smoking weed on set, smith says it helps him, but for whatever reason, his new films are still shit. he deserved all the critique from bruce willis

you should have seen the dumb goth kids wore when I was in school, it was like those but with 8000 zippers all over it

He's an obnoxious loudmouth.
>>
>"yo I got this really cool idea for a movie"
>this script is only 10 pages long
>"we'll improv it man"

his movies are shit

Too much of fanboy to objectively recognize something that is shit.

Definition of wasted potential

>finance your own film that you and your buddies make with only the sweat of your brow
>somehow it makes it big and you gain a devoted fanbase and influence comedy for the next few years
>get butt blasted by critics and refuse to grow as a writer or director
>time goes by and your constant weed smoking and complaining slowly alienate the Hollywood circle you've built up
>go from working with A listers like Matt Damon and Ben Affleck to working with Haley Joel Osment and Johnny Depp's daughter.

Honestly I think he could have been what Joss Whedon is now if he just listened to critics instead of being a petulant bitch.
>>
>>81235436
>but clunky performances.
Considering it's a film school project starring friends of his, it's a lot better than it ought to be.
I grew up with Clerks and Mallrats though, loved chasing amy (it is a little cringey, but it's got some genuine heart, and Banky and Hooper X have 10/10 bantz).
I remember reading the script for dogma on based drew's script-o-rama and being genuinely hyped as fuck for the movie. I was a little bit let down because the script was actually a pretty decent road-trip movie to stop the end of the world for happening. I've got a soft spot for that kind of gonzo premise.
The problem is I don't think he's a very good director. He can get a very specific very limited performance from a very select cast, but anything bigger than a John Hughes tribute movie and it's too big for him.

>>81236215
The 90's were a hell of a drug anon.

Don't care for his films but enjoy watching those q&a/stand-up shows he does.

You now remember there was an episode of Yes Dear where Jimmy shit talks him to his face about what a shitty director and writer he is cause Jimmy has no idea who he is and Kevin Smith runs off and tries to get him fired because he can't handle criticism but doesn't realize Jimmy was using Greg's movie pass and Greg gets in trouble for it.
