Is Spideykino back?

>The film shot under the production name of "Summer of George", because during development they were watching a lot of SEINFELD.

>From the very start, the idea was to introduce Peter Parker in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR.

>Amy Pascal says one of the things that attracted them to Jon Watts was that COP CAR showed he knew how to tell a story through action.

>Jon Watts wanted to show a "ground level" superhero story in the MCU as opposed to the "penthouse level" stories of Iron Man, Thor, etc.

>As soon as Watts got the job he was flown down to Atlanta to the set of CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR to consult on the Spider-Man scenes.

>Part of Watts’ pitch was telling a high school story at a school that looked like a real modern high school, not the 1950s. Watts put together a lookbook of photos of kids of all different races to show how diverse he wanted the classmates to be.

>HOMECOMING is a coming-of-age story, and the central Peter Parker arc is him trying to figure out which part of him is Peter and which part of him is Spider-Man.

>Watts gave the young cast members movies to watch as homework for the film like SAY ANYTHING, FERRIS BUELLER'S DAY OFF, PRETTY IN PINK, and FREAKS AND GEEKS. Holland and the cast had a Domino’s Day where they ate pizza and marathoned the movies.

>In preparation for the role, Tom Holland went undercover at a public high school in the Bronx for three days with a fake name and a fake accent.

>Zendaya’s character was inspired by Ally Sheedy in THE BREAKFAST CLUB and Linda Cardellini in FREAKS AND GEEKS. She’s bookish and always has a pile of oddball books she’s carrying around.

>Spider-Man’s low-tech pajama suit makes an appearance in the film.

>During the audition process, Holland recorded himself on tape with the help of Joel Kinnaman and Jon Bernthal, who he was shooting movies with at the time.

>One of the scenes Marvel used to audition Holland for Spider-Man was from WHIPLASH, a scene between Miles Teller and J.K. Simmons’ characters. Then his final audition scene was the scene in CIVIL WAR where Tony Stark meets Peter Parker.

>Holland trained for a month before filming to show off Spider-Man abilities we haven’t seen onscreen before.

>Holland says the film shows the beginning of a sort of big brother/little brother relationship between Tony and Peter.

>The first month of shooting was all the high school scenes at a high school in Atlanta while the students were on summer break. Watts allowed his actors a lot of freedom to try different ideas and dialogue on set.

>The film begins at the beginning of Peter’s sophomore year.

>The first day of shooting saw Holland making practical webbing in science class, but Holland accidentally dropped the glass container and smashed it everywhere.

>Michael Keaton’s character changed quite a bit from the first version of the script to the finished film after Watts and Keaton collaborated on their approach to the character.

>The original script never specified Peter's friend Ned as "Ned Leeds," but Leeds was certainly the idea of the character at the beginning.

>Hannibal Buress plays a coach at the school and Logan Marshall-Green and Donald Glover play members of Michael Keaton’s team. Glover’s role was being kept under tight wraps while we were on set.

>The film takes place four months after the events of CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR. The producers said they want to keep Peter Parker in high school for as long as possible.

>There’s a flashback sequence in the film that shows Peter hanging out in Berlin after the airport battle in CIVIL WAR.

>When Tony meets Peter in CIVIL WAR, he’s been fighting crime as Spider-Man for roughly 4-6 months.
>>
Why have they never made the organic shooters canon?

>When Peter returns home from Berlin he sets out to fight a lot of low-level crime, but dreams of stopping bigger baddies like the Avengers—although Tony Stark doesn’t approve.

>Aside from his adventures in CIVIL WAR, the Vulture is the biggest villain he’s been up against so far.

>The origin story has not been changed from the one that everyone knows. Uncle Ben is referenced but there are no flashbacks to his death. This was done to keep the tone light and centered on Peter's journey of self-discovery.

>The mantra "with great power comes great responsability" is not in the movie.

>There’s a Ferris Bueller-inspired chase sequence through neighborhoods.

>Adrian Toomes is a family man prior to becoming the Vulture and has kind of a "Tony Soprano mentality" in that he wants his shot at the good life and doesn’t necessarily have delusions of grandeur in terms of taking over the world. He wants to provide his family the life he believes they deserve and that has been taken from them by Tony Stark.

>Toomes owns a salvage company that landed the contract to clean up alien technology after the Battle of New York, but eventually the Department of Damage Control created by Stark takes over, ruining his livelihood.

>Toomes and his crew build the Vulture suit from the alien technology they have already stored in order to salvage more alien tech faster and more efficiently than Damage Control. Toomes is a "blue-collar villain" who grows increasingly villainous as he's backed into corners while trying to get back on his feet through dubious means.

>Toomes' crew is in possession of Crossbones’ gauntlets from CIVIL WAR which are retrofit to become Shocker's gauntlets.

>The movie begins with a flashback sequence in the aftermath of THE AVENGERS introducing Toomes and his salvage crew as they explore the ruins near Stark Tower.

>There are no specific references to the Marvel/Netflix "ground level" characters like Daredevil and Luke Cage.

They gave one of Spidey's two most famous catchphrases to Tony Stark. It has no chance at all.

Seriously, anyone who pays to see this shit or continues to support Disney's rape of these characters and their laughably transparent and cynical manipulation of their viewing audience loses all rights to consider themselves comics fans.

>Watts originally thought they were going to use more CGI than they ended up using, but there’s a lot of practical Spider-Man in the finished film.

>One of the fun things about bringing Spider-Man to the MCU is having a lot of tech-based powers and abilities.

>Peter still built his webshooters and invented the web fluid on his own.

>The suit has a J.A.R.V.I.S-esque voice inside of it which Peter doesn't exactly know how to control. Once the "training wheels" protocol set up by Stark is removed, Peter discovers a lot of new features in the suit Tony designed.

>The holographic display seen at the end of CIVIL WAR allows Peter to use his high-tech webshooters and choose different settings like "swing web", "web ball", etc.

>The suit also has a heater, it lights up, the Spider-Man logo gives him surveillance data, there’s an airbag, and there’s a web that can tase people.

>The studio chose to avoid characters and settings already used in Sam Raimi's and Marc Webb's movies such as Gwen Stacy, Mary-Jane Watson, Harry Osborn, the Daily Bugle, OsCorp and villains such as Green Goblin and Doctor Octopus. These characters won't be featured in the HOMECOMING series unless they're reinvented.

>Aunt May and Flash Thompson were only included because they're different from previous incarnations. Aunt May is younger and acts more like Peter's roommate and big sister than a mother. Flash, on the other hand, is an intellectual rival and "social bully" to Peter.

>The writing for the Flash character was informed by Holland's experiences while undercover at a high school in Bronx.

>Another staple of the Raimi Webb movies that Watts is avoiding are the sweeping swings through the Manhattan skyline. Instead there'll be a "ground level" camerawork as Spider-Man swings through Queens. In a manner reminiscent of SATURDAY NIGHT FEVER Manhattan will be a distant aspiration of his.
>>

>Liz Allan is Peter's love interest in SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING and will return for further movies alongside Ned, Flash and Michelle.

>The criminal element of New York will be presented more realistically, eschwing the gangs lurking in alleyways featured in the Raimi Webb movies.

>There's a running gag of Peter misplacing his street clothes when running off to fight crime as Spider-Man.

>Sony is not planning to remove Spider-Man for the MCU and all sequels are being planned as part of the same universe, as evidenced by Spider-Man's role in AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR and its yet untitled sequel.

It looks like it'll be more bland, generic, flavorless mush from the drones at MarvelCorp

The trailer's full of witless snark and tired cliches churned out by what I will charitably call "characters" as though they are units in a production line capable only of producing dead metaphors. The arc of the movie seems to be entirely about Spider-Man's reliance on his Stark supersuit, a storyline not only utterly devoid of human drama, conflict or interest but one which only exists to be able to hawk toys and merchandising as plastic and lifeless as the film itself.

Top it all off with a cynical appeal to liberal sensibilities - devoid of any truly progressive or radical sentiment, the trailer's showcase of the movie's alleged moral credentials - by parading a series of "diverse" cast members before the viewer's eyes - confirms that the latest currents of social justice have been co-opted by corporate interests and subverted into a hybrid form of marketing and propaganda - come see our movie, it makes you a good person! they cry - and of course, if you don't succumb, if you resist, if like any intelligent person, you remain a sceptical, thoughtful, being, doubtful that morality should be available for purchase at your local multiplex - prepare to be demonised using every form of "ism" still in existence.

“What we heard was that people didn’t want any more diversity,” he said. “They didn’t want female characters out there. That’s what we heard, whether we believe that or not"

Yeah, because pointing out the obvious is the man-child thing to do, right?

In case you weren't paying attention!(and odds are you weren't), Marvel is intentionally sabotaging their own film this time around by going out of their way to alienate their core fanbase. If you're not offended by Disney having Stark mouthpiece this line to Pete and RDJ simply not giving enough of a shit now to balk at it, then that fanbase doesn't include you.

It's a transparent attempt to drive down the value of Soidey's brand so they can pick it up on the cheap when Sony's rights expire. What makes it so cynical is that they know those fans are in the minority now. They can just rely on "consumers" to keep them afloat while they continue to rape these characters of everything that ever made them unique and special.

I'm done supporting them. Yes, I'll continue to watch them on the big screen in hopes of them, against all odds, producing something memorable, but my money's going to be spent elsewhere. I'll buy tickets to literally anything else and sneak in. The shit ain't exactly hard to do.

Symbiotes were never that interesting to begin with.
All their lore was lost with the feverish 90s muscle monster fetish and it never really recovered, so I was fine with the 'Peter's parents created a cancer fighting super commensalism serum' storyline but i digress-- MCU goes out of its way not to do any real Ultimate stories for obvious reasons but the backbone of burgeoning capes in the 21st century is there to take away a lot of the campiness surrounding its mainstays which was perfect for the movie going audience. Of course it bled over to the regular 616 universe over 5 years or so after its success so it became shittier to try to keep its edge, but yeah.

>Part of Watts’ pitch was telling a high school story at a school that looked like a real modern high school, not the 1950s. Watts put together a lookbook of photos of kids of all different races to show how diverse he wanted the classmates to be.
ew lol

WHAT the fuck is Raimi's problem?
>>
>>81242181
Are you shitting me? This is the MCU we're talking about here. They can't always keep their shit consistent just within the same movie.
>>

It's a crutch anon. They use Iron manlent to secure a minimum of people showing up at the cinema. Spiderman doesn't need that but still they put him there because this is a huge fuck you to the last two Sony movies.
Find it funny that the iron manlet is actually just a crutch at this point.
I still like the first Iron-man movie.

It was in the for a little while, just before Civil War in the comics.
I think t still is he just doesn't use it because he needs to eat too much to generate webbing.

I love/hate the backlash against Tony playing such a big role. Not only is it ignoring the relationship Tony and Pete had in the Civil War comics, but the fact that Pete needing guidance in his early career was very much a part of the old comics. It's just that It was the Fantastic Four who helped him out most and they just aren't available for the MCU.

All through his time as Spidey, the FF have been there to bail him out of trouble. Reed was very much a father figure pretty much up until Civil War fucked the entire comic line character's dynamics.

There is nothing wrong with anything Homecoming has set up as far as we've seen.
Moviefags are the ones who miss the point if they think the Raimi flicks were true to the character at all.

Flash was never a violent psychopath in the comics.
He and Pete would exchange verbal darts but the "bully" aspect was never too harsh. they were often hanging out in the same group.
Flash was a meat-head jock, and rival for love interests not a fucking serial killer in training.

So he should be played by an indian manlet who'd clearly be a bigger bullying target than Pete?
>>
>>81245385
>clearly be a bigger bullying target than Pete

They could make a pretty on-point statement about teenage pecking orders here, but I'm willing to bet they don't.
>>
>>81245475

The only way it would make sense is if somehow the school is like 2/3s indian kids.

Even in the deepest ghettos filled with black kids and mexicans, the curry-smelling kids would be made fun of more than any white kid.

And this "intellectual" rivalry is nonsense, they must be downplaying Peter's intelligence so hard.
>>
>>81245728
What I'm saying is that Pete's less of a target because he's a white boy, so the jocks pick on "Flash," who perceives that Pete's too nice a guy to retaliate, so he picks on him in turn.

If they did that, I'd be amazed. I'm not holding my breath, though.

Tomei is whatever, I can watch her in that Ethan Hawke movie where she actually gets naked

Keaton's gonna bail after this film and will probably kind of phone it in in this one tbqh

>>81245897
Since the movies are using comic characters and story lines, i don't see why you're trying so hard to be a dipshit about what I said.
People are mad about things Homecoming is doing when nothing about it is far off from the source material.
And some even try to deify the Raimi movies when that formula couldn't even sustain itself for three movies in a row before going shit.
Scrub yourself scrublord.
>>
>>81245975
I also don't get the need for them to introduce an original character called Michelle, when there are so many other potential characters in the source material.

Good lord I would almost take another Batman's parents get killed scene in a movies over this shit again
>>
>>81246155
But it's not an origin story, he'd been Spider-Man for half-a-year in Civil War already and this is after that.
>>
>>81231814
>>From the very start, the idea was to introduce Peter Parker in CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR.

But we know for a fact that isnt true. we know that the deal with sony was lastminute and they re-wrote parts to include Spider-Man.

Why would you lie
