His performance in series 5 is actually highly varied as he's still finding ways to play the role. His performances in The Beast Below and The Time of Angels (to pick two examples) are almost different characters, the filming being out of order also contributes to this effect. It probably doesn't really settle into a consistent line until the second half. Although criticisms that reduce any doctor to a cliché like 'tumblr doctor' are probably badly thought through/in poor taste anyway.
