I am gonna have to disagree with you here, the entire resolution is awkward and boring due to various factors including fairly naff direction. In fact every aspect is a bit shit right down to the voice of the trees. The last time I rewatched it I was struck just by how devoid of energy it was by what was meant to be the climax.
It has some interesting character work with 12 and Clala which is basically its main saving grace.

The monsters are useless, the kids are really badly acted, the references are dated ('happy slapping hoodies with ASBOs and ringtones!'), the Rose/Sarah Jane dialogue is appallingly badly written, the Krillitane CGI has aged terribly even by RTD-era standards, the villainous plot is resolved by Mickey taking a plug out of the wall... I remember the episode being a minor classic, but it doesn't at all hold up.

The only things it really has going for it are the interactions between the Doctor and Finch (say what you will about Whithouse, the man's one of the best at satisfying villain confrontations), and some of Sarah's dialogue. It's telling that the Sarah Jane Adventures does a far, far better job with her than School Reunion does, though- I hadn't watched it since TSJA went out, and it's pretty shocking how much more any given episode of that series gives Liz Sladen to work with.

I liked the first two, though most people didn't. Davros' paternal attitude to the Daleks was a nice touch, as well as the stuff about the Daleks basically being super-predators. It's let down a bit by Moffat's habit of introducing an idea that never goes further than a single episode - Dalek's never die, but they still age, eventually turning to slop, which is abandoned in the sewers - which sorta contradicts Asylum of the Daleks, where the Daleks considered hatred too beautiful to be abandoned or extinguished.

Wasn't a big fan of the "if Daleks have any emotion, the machine makes them kill", and the idea that the Daleks only have a concept of mercy because Davros does - surely they're aware of it in other cultures, now? Same for love, etc.

I can't wait for 12 big finish. I feel like he never got or will have his signature companion on tv and I think he'll be really good in some ambitious stories. Unless big finish doesn't deliver the high quality goods which would suck.

Most of the better ones I remember were Eight Doctor stories though idr which ones exactly. They put a lot of effort into them since there wasn't going to be anything afterwards as far as they knew, one or two of the authors talked about this just before the revival started.
The god-tier one I really believe should have been a two-part special or movie was called Interference and it was split into two books iirc but I read them twice and then had to sell it so I can't really go through it again to make sure its as good as I remember. Those came out in 1999, I remember because it kept me reading the books when I was starting to grow out of them
