Lived in Alaska for a long time and have seen my share of full grown brown bears up close. Normally they don't bother you, but if one decided to get pissy or felt threatened, all I can say is seeing one on a screen does not do justice to the comparison between you and the bear. A grizzly can run down an elk from a dead sprint. Unless the bear loses interest (which is the leading cause of survival from a bear attack), you don't stand a chance in a "fight" with anything less than a 12 gauge slug or a 454 casull minimum. Personally, I wouldn't feel safe other than sniping one from where it can't charge at me.

I can kill a bear, but I'd say the chances are 40-60. Yeah, I know bears are fast, huge and strong, but I'm smarter. I'm 6'3 and I've been training martial arts and lifting since I was 15, that makes almost a decade of battle experience, mostly in boxe and karate. I'm quite sure I can smash an adult human's skull with a proper hit.

As for fighting a bear, it depends a lot. It runs fast yeah, but that doesn't mean it swings fast, plus, with it's animal instincts, he will most likely try to bite me, which requires a lot more mobility from its huge body and limits his reach (since the neck can't turn fast or far enough). If I get a first, proper hit in, the chances are probably 50/50, from there on I can use footwork to side the bear and hit its vital spots. With a jaw hit or something to knock its brain around, I can build up damage until the bear falls down or passes out, then it's pretty much over and I can just beat his head open.

There are several accounts of human's fighting, surviving and some even defeating bears in hand combat, which proves it's actually possible. Of course I'm not even considering mental aptitude here besides my human brain capacity, but I'll also be free to choose the day and moment of the fight, where I'm in my absolute best condition and the bear is not. I can also use surprise attacks or scare him into protecting his life and making stupid, wasteful moves, and thus exposing his vitals for specific hits. I can pack heavy punches from my boxing experience, and kicks as well due to karate. Karate also allows me to aim for precise or internal damage using proper hand movement and striking precision.

The fact that it's a wild animal makes all the difference, If it were a bear-sized human, I'd have absolutely no chance to win, but in this case the probability skyrockets. Animals have survival instincts rather than fighting ones, and will protect it's life more often than not, which is a huge mistake when fighting a martial artist.
